Sunday, May 5th, 2013, eleven members of the Beckwourth Doers toured the Pueblo Nature & Raptor Center where injured and sick birds are treated until the birds are considered in good enough health to be released. Some the birds will always be held in captivity. Currently, there are around 200 birds at the raptor center. After the tour, we hiked about 2 miles of paved paths along the Arkansas River to see if we could find some birds nesting in trees near the river bank. Well, no nesting birds this time. Now it was on the historic River Walk in downtown Pueblo to walk the paths along side the man-made river course. Two members of our group even rode the river boat. Before heading back to the Denver metro area, we stopped at the Rosario Italian Restaurant next to the River Walk for a great meal. To work off the meal, some of us walked the 3 block old town Pueblo business district before heading home. It was a nice day for all in Pueblo, Colorado.

The trail was peaceful and whole trip was interesting. Even it's good cause, but still it's sad to see the birds have to live in the cage for their life.

I understand rescuing and treating injured birds, but caging them almost 30 years when these raptors once owned the skies . . . ?
