Talk about "The Tiger's Wife" by Téa Obreht

A National Book Award finalist picked as one of the best books 2011 by the NY Times, Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, and many others - this debut novel has had quite an impact.

(From Publisher's Weekly:) "In a Balkan country mending from war, Natalia, a young doctor, is compelled to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding her beloved grandfather’s recent death. Searching for clues, she turns to his worn copy of The Jungle Book and the stories he told her of his encounters over the years with “the deathless man.” But most extraordinary of all is the story her grandfather never told her—the legend of the tiger’s wife."

Available from Chapters and Amazon. The Ottawa public library has numerous copies, but there is a large list of hold requests on the book - check for current availability online.

This was my first meetup and I enjoyed it very much. Diverse, interesting, eminently likeable group of people. Tea Obreht's novel was a great choice. Thank you, Danny, for starting this group.

As entertaining as ever. Always good to see familiar faces and meet new people who can "drink, think" and have fun. Looking forward to the next excerpt, especially if it includes heavy dollops of historical fiction. Thanks Danny.
