For purposes of our group, everyone is listed as a "Rookie" until they complete their first Hillls & Hops hike. Otherwise, are you an experienced hiker, or just looking for a new adventure (not that they're mutually exclusive)?
In which city are you located? About half our members are living in a different city than their Meetup profile indicates.
Three horses walk into a bar on a Tuesday. If Christmas falls on a Tuesday ... what's your favorite band?
How did you hear about Hills & Hops (formerly The Circle of Trust & Beer)?
Do you have a favorite hike you'd like to introduce to the group?

Hills & Hops pretty well describes everything you need to know about the Bay Area's most unique hiking club. We hike. Then we sacrifice all those burnt calories to the beer gods. Any questions?
And while bagging a summit and then throwing back a few cold ones hardly qualifies as unique, the way we do it is. All of our hikes have been personally researched for distance, elevation gain, foliage cover and trail types. You'll even know how long each hike will take to traverse, what kind of views you'll see -- even where the bathrooms are located -- just by reading our passionately crafted hike descriptions.
We've also made getting to the hikes easier by encouraging everyone to sign up as a driver or passenger on our automated carpool site. Once you've arrived, you'll feel embraced by the open (warped) culture of Hills & Hops, whether it's your first hike with the group, or your 50th. You'll also be treated to historic and geographic factoids about the trails you're traversing.
We go to similar lengths to put on the best post-hike celebration in the Meetup universe. Assembling a few dozen hikers at a busy Bay Area brew-pub on a weekend isn't for the faint of will. But over the past four years, we've honed the process to a science while forging rock-solid relationships with restaurant management and ownership teams in a half-dozen counties. In fact, they were more than happy to step to the plate to sponsor -- in the form of gift certificates -- our latest endeavor: Trail Trivia, a post-hike quiz that awards a free dinner for the winner!
But you don't need to know all the goings-on behind the curtain. Your job is to sign up, show up and enjoy!
