Why do you want to become a farmer?

I feel that eating locally is becoming more important in our world. We waste tons of time, money and energy transporting food all over the world when it can be grow right here. Eat local! Ideally, I would like to become as close to 100% self-reliant as possible, and that all has to start with growing my own food.

Have you done any farming before? even in your backyard

My parents have grown very small-scale gardens in the past, and I helped a little with those. However, my farming skills are pretty non-existent.

What type of farming are you interested in? (vegetable, fruit, poultry, dairy e.t.c)

I'm most interested in fruit and vegetable farming, but would also like to raise animals such as chickens, goats, pigs, etc. Permaculture and aquaculture are also interests of mine. I love fish and would love to have them right in my backyard one day.

What do you hope to get from this group?

I hope to make connections to those who see the importance in local farming. My area of expertise is computer science and electronics, and I like to show others that with the help of automation, farming doesn't have to be as labor-intensive as many think it is. I also hope to learn some new skills along the way. Everyone has different methods, and I learn best by seeing and doing rather than reading. I hope to contribute as much as I take away.

Hello, My name is Joel E B. I'm very new to the world of farming, but very eager to learn. I'm more interested in urban/backyard farming, but hope to one day have a farm of my own.
