May BHS Meeting at Beer All

The May 13th meeting of the BHS will be at Beer All with proprietor Dongzi  (东子).  Beer All is in the Jianwai Soho West area just South West of the Guomao Bridge. The Beer Styles for May are Maibock, Kolsch and Alt.

Jianhai SoHo is just one big city of towers in the country of Beijing. There are many shops and restaurants so you might choose to arrive quite early to roam around.

The meetup map above is correct.  Driving / parking  directions from the Guomao bridge are here, http://goo.gl/maps/OvrLK.  Walking directions from the nearest line 1 station, Yong'Anli - exit C, are here, http://goo.gl/maps/dGMdj.  Beer All is on the B1 level (basement 1) at the Southeast corner of SOHO Building 17.  Go down the first set of outside stairs just East of the Southeast corner of the building.

More on the May beer styles.  BearAdvocate Style links follow:

 o Maibock / Hellesbock, http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/style/33/

 o Kolsch, http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/style/85/

 o Altbier, http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/style/86/

Note the position of these styles on this beer style scatter plot, http://files.meetup.com/7049692/201405_may_beer_style_plot_01.pdf.  The Miabock / Helles Bock and Kolsch styles are similar.  The Altbier is far South of the two.  A bimodal distribution in a population of three (sweeter vs bitter).  A Biere de Garde or Flanders Brown are examples of beer styles that are the furthest and equally different styles.  Anti May styles if you will.

As for food, a favorite of Dongzi and his customers is from a Korean restaurant The 79 House.  A menu is here, http://files.meetup.com/7049692/201405_meetup_korean_menu.pdf.  There is also food next door including a 35 kuai sausage plate and a 90 kuai stake plate.

For a trip back to last month, the April Beer Minutes Plus is here, http://files.meetup.com/7049692/20140418_bmp.pdf.

Here's a better map to find Beer All from Yong'anli zhan, it's in the basement South-East of building 17 (which you have to pass around to get to the bar). http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Shaytan67/media/Bier/MapBeerAll.jpg.html

    The May Meet-up Name 10 Guess-athon---------------
    Dear All,
Another Meet-up means? Yes, another meet-up------ competition!!
This meet up I will be bringing in 3 empty 2.5 gallon water jugs as prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd question answered for The May Meet-up Name 10 Guess-athon.
I am currently comprising 3 questions, where the first one who gets the question correct wins a jug and to be fair, it's a one jug per person deal.-------------------
(Example Question: Name 10 All American Breweries)
(and "no" its not going to be this question)------------
If no one can get a 10 out of 10, it will be given to the person with the highest correct number of answers.
-----P.S. there is a policy of "you win it, you take it"----
As for last months Undrinkable Stout event. I will be bringing another chilled bottle to taste if its gotten even better. And yes, it turned out much better last month than I had made it out to be.-------------------
    See ya'll @ soon.

Hellllo, I'm interested in coming to this meetup, but I'm new to the group so I was wondering do I need to bring anything with me and how the events usually go? I honestly know nothing about brewing beer... but would love to learn :D

Hi Grace, you don't need to bring anything but nice beers always go down well ;) We usually just have a few beers, try a few home brews, and Jacob gives a short talk about a given subject - this month we'll be trying and talking about the specific styles above - there's a tasting fee, which I think is usually around 40 kuai for non-members? There are a few beginners in the group as well as some seasoned brewers so you can learn quite a lot.

Hello Grace. Welcome to the BHS. The BHS selects a different host (meeting point) each month. The meetings are led by BHS founding member and president Jacob Wickham. The event starts with some social time, then the meeting, and concludes with more social time. The business of the meeting includes HBS announcements & updates, flavor(s) of the month and technical topic of the month. The samples for the flavor of the month are supported by a nominal tasting fee. Also during meeting, a few homebrewers are able to share. Share their homebrew beer, homebrew cider or perhaps a special bottle from abroad.

The BHS welcomes you to our Tuesday the 13th meeting at Beer All.

Hi this is my first event with our group! Can't wait guys! ;) How do we recognize each other BTW? Do we normally wear name tags or something?

Carry a bottle of Yanjing and see which group of people sneer snobbishly at you :pI think we've got a beard:no-beard ratio of about 1:1 so quite easy to spot.
