Go boating & cycling (boats and bikes for rent) at the Hanshiqiao wetlands just outside Beijing
Hanshiqiao Wetland Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern suburbs 35 kilometers away from Beijing downtown and 20 kilometers away from Beijing airport. It is the only large reed marshes and rare waterfowl habitat in Beijing. The total area of Hanshiqiao Wetland Nature Reserve is 1900 hectares
The Hanshiqiao wetlands have 292 kinds of plants, 153 kinds of birds, 10 species of amphibians and reptiles, 19 species of fish, nearly a hundred species of insects.
Reeds can grow 2 m high in summer like a vast ‘green sea’. In the south of the reserve is 1000 acres Forest Park, next to Forest Park is about 500 acres of wetlands garden.
2008 info: Bus 915 + taxi or smaller bus from Shanyi. Free entry, bird reserve 15 RMB; motor/paddle boats for rent (4-seaters), cycle paths with bikes for rent.
