Knitting!

A suggestion for a future meetup is to get together and knit some things. Unfortunately, that's outside my expertise! I would be more than willing to host things, but we're looking for someone willing to teach! Once we find that, we can get this scheduled! If you'd be willing to teach or know someone who could, please let us know!

Thanks so much Becky. It was a lot of fun and everyone did great! What a great group of ladies. Keep clicking those needles! ;) Here is a link to that tomato soup I was telling you and Kasi about. It makes a lot but it freezes well.

Emergency repairs to be done at my home...

    1 · November 23, 2013

  • Carlotta H.

Sorry ladies... my roof is leaking badly. One laptop and some smaller electronics have fallen victim to the rain so far. I am afraid that I won't be meeting you all today as I need to get up there with my boyfriend and do some emergency repairs, not my favorite pasttime. I hope to meet you all at the next gathering. Have fun and stay warm and dry.

oh, and I can teach crocheting to anybody if they bring a hook (preferably a h, j or k) and I can bring an extra skein of white yarn to get started with. I once taught someone left-handed many years ago...

I have some extra I, J, and K hooks to share.

      November 23, 2013

  • pam

I'm still sick, probably contagious. It's been a nasty cold/flu or whatever & if I 'shared it would likely mess up your Christmas (I've been sick since Nov. 2nd!) and that wouldn't be fair. I'll see if I can do something crafty here though. :)

    Until next time! Have fun.

Bummed I can't make it. I tried to learn how to knit once and it was a disaster. haha! We're moving over the next few days! But good news for me, I'm moving closer to Newbury Park so I will for sure attend the next one. Have fun ladies!

    While I wouldn't call this 'knitting' - I bet I could do it! :)

I always called that "finger crochet," but I'm a crocheter, so there you go. :) I was totally thinking about making a scarf like this the other day.

Hey guys, Kasi said she'd be willing to teach us the basics, so I think we're settling on Saturday, November 23rd at 1:00pm at my house. All I know is knitting needles, yarn, and scissors. Kasi, could you give us any more insight on what we need for this?

That about covers it. Needles, yarn and scissors. I'll bring books for people to browse through. I'm no expert but I can cover the basics. Needles can be found for @ the 99 Cent store or Dollar Store. I would say a US size 8 or 9 is good to start with and worsted weight yarn.

Everyone should check out https://www.ravelry.com/ You have to join, which is free, and there are lots of free patterns for both knitting and crocheting.

I have extra supplies if anyone wants to try but isn't ready to invest a lot. Yarn, needles and hooks, scissors, notebooks, pencils, books and patterns, etc. Contact me if you have a need and if I have it I will arrange to bring it with me. I am nervous but looking forward to meeting you all.

Oh someone mentioned crocheting with wire... I have taught that and do have some wire if you want to try iit and the group is OK with it. It is different than using thread, yarn or cord but it does look really cool and is worth the work.

    3 · November 6, 2013

Oh, thank you! I'd love to try it. Knitting is a bit challenging for me.

Sound great. I'll bring a (novice) crocheting project I'm working-on & ooh-&-ah Kasi's creative knitting talent in action.

Just one board. Their search is getting better too. I enjoy crafting videos to learn from as well.

I realized yesterday that I might like to crochet with wire for jewelry.

I'm a decent knitter. I can at least teach the basics. Casting on, knit, purl, increasing and decreasing and binding off. Those are all you really need to start out. You will have a world of pattern options available with those skills alone! I would be very happy to teach any one interested in learning. I can also bring a bunch of my more beginner oriented books for people to browse! My only time constraint is that I work during the day on Sundays. But I am free during the day on most Saturdays. ( I will be out of town Nov 15th-17th.)

Hi Kasi, it sounds like you are just what we were looking for! I can host on a Saturday, but I will be out of town on Saturday the 16th of November and Saturday the 30th of November. Why don't you choose one of the other November Saturdays that will work best for you (and hopefully your knitting-guru friend!) and we will schedule it! Thank you for volunteering, I'm looking forward to this!

I also have a friend who is pretty much my knitting guru. Once a date is set I can see if she would like to join us. I hope that would be okay.

I don't knit, but I do crochet, if we want to do a knit/crochet combo. I have never taught anyone, but I can try if anyone needs help reading patterns or wants to learn new stitches.

I have crocheted in the past. I'd enjoy working at it again. I know someone who is fabulous at it. I'll let her know about this group!

Eva's needlework on Thousand Oaks Blvd teaches knitting and crochet. Maybe we could arrange it with them to either go there or to come over to your house to teach us. They wouldn't charge if we went over to their shop and probably wouldn't charge to come to your house either.
