I am not from Dallas. I have lived in Dallas 5 years, I am originally from New York City but I was born in West Africa (Liberia) and immigrated to the U.S when I was 2 years old. I LOVE the fact that I have the best of both worlds, African-American. I am definitely able to see and bridge the gap having those two cultures mixed up inside of me.
I didn't go "natural"on purpose. I started getting sew-in weaves so that I could work out and lose weight, without having to worry about sweating my wraps/relaxers out. It just so happened that the stylist I had been referred to, doesn't relax her clients hair. She told me we specialized in healthy hair and we do not add relaxers. She left almost to nothing out for coverage and that was easy for me to maintain with a flat iron. That was my journey and I didn't event know it. I decided to big chop 3/28/2012 after my return from NYC and seeing all the beautiful natural women walking the streets. I was ready for something new and realized I was only procrastinating the inevitable. So I cut my hair myself in my bathroom sink. The end...and beginning!
#MAJA. I want to eat even better than before. I want to get fit, stay healthy and read about all these chemicals we consumed for so long. I want to stand on top of the roof tops and yell at EVERYBODY to go natural. I know that's not fair or possible, but that is how passionate I am about it. I want to continue to grow and find my true self and live life on purpose, be happy. I read everything as far as labels now. I pay more attention towards things I never would have thought twice about before. My skin is looking great and I get so many compliments, I know it's directly related to my diet and my essentials oils I use daily. Life's good.
I am interested in any and all capacity of meetups. If you have your individual natural hair groups, I want to be involved. Bella Kinks can assist you in making your meetups more successful through organizing, sponsorship and product testing and reviews through major companies. Let me know how I can be of assistance and let's work together to get it done.
For me, this movement is philanthropic. Through the hair, women are being spiritually healed, getting healthier and it also teaching through example young girls to embrace their natural beauty. I am happy to be apart of it.
Thanks so much for coming out and supporting us in our 3rd meetup. We appreciate the feedback and will definitely look to improve the experience with every meetup.
