January 2, 2010
It’s now been four years since I started this group and many of my goals have been attained even as new ones are being formulated. I thank each of you who sign up, lace up your hiking shoes, and meet me at the trailhead -- especially on those dark, after work urban power walks and drizzly weekend day hikes -- for it is your active and enthusiastic participation that help motivate me to put these hikes together. Jazz, my boxer thanks you too as she’s getting twice the amount of trail time in as she would otherwise! Thank you all for coming out and making this truly a FUN and FITNESS group that everyone can enjoy and participate in. As 2014 is here, here are my goals for the year: Drop my current weight of 188 down to 165 by removing gluten & processed foods from my diet. (I know this is personal. Don’t feel you have to make your goals this personal unless you want to.)
Have more stamina on my biking. The goal here is that so that I can plan for and go on a 30 - 40 mile biking trip comfortably without the debilitating chafe. I don’t want to be cursing my weekend bike trip that following Wednesday. Continue to try new sports monthly to keep things fresh. If anyone has an outrigger canoe that they would let me paddle around Padden with – I would be extremely grateful. I have a solo canoe if you’d like to paddle with me and we could go out together while you give me tips on the outrigger. Increasing my carrying capacity while hiking at higher elevations. 2013, I did my first major backpack in a long time. 4 days along Shi Shi beach on the Olympic Coast and two nights off Obstruction point, up by Hurricane Ridge. In 2014, I plan to hike the Cascade Pass to Stehekin and backpack a week through Glacier National Park. Goal? To feel great when I’m done and want to plan more in 2015. That’s it. What are your 2014 fitness goals?
Because I need workout buddies!
There just isn't a better way to start the day than to get your heart pounding with some outdoor fitness -- with a phenomenal view to boot!
