This will be a 2 night out backpack into the Three Sisters Wilderness to complete a wilderness stewardship project. We will be joined by a wilderness ranger who will give us instructions. This event is offered to you by Friends of the Central Cascades Wilderness and your local Wilderness Rangers. Our mission will be to rehab a wilderness lake camping area. You will have to bring your own backpacking gear, work gloves and food. All other tools will be supplied by the Forest Service. You will have the option of having your overnight backpack packed in by stock. This means you would only carry a daypack. No dogs or campfires please. We need a team of 6-10 backpackers. This will still be a fun outing with time for hiking, relaxing and socializing. We will also have the opportunity to learn and ask questions.
Restoration Plan: Wooden sign installation for camping set back- Installation of restoration signing at closed campsites- Armoring and naturalization of illegal campsites- Installation of no campfire signs- Installation of natural armor and rough check dams on the access trail coming from Green Lakes divide. We will hike in from Green Lakes. This trip will require about 7 miles of hiking each way. Elevation gain round trip is approximately 1300 feet. We will camp in the Golden Lake area for the weekend and depart from Golden Lake and head back to Green Lakes on Sunday at noon with the goal of getting participants home by late afternoon Sunday. If there’s interest from the group, we could meet up at Deschutes Brewery afterwards to celebrate our effort. Thank you for your willingness to help. This project as you will see is really needed asap.
Please keep in mind that the work is somewhat strenuous. Most of this will be done in a team work fashion. Everyone will have to sign a volunteer agreement and waiver. You will love Golden Lake. It is a beautiful area to explore just below and north of Broken Top.
