Clean Sweep Hikes

  • September 27, 2014 · 8:00 AM

Love it and Leave it Clean Day!

This event is hosted by Friends of the Central Cascades Wilderness and your local Wilderness Rangers. We will divide up into teams of no more than 11, then each team will hike with a Ranger on a different trail. Four Wilderness Rangers are attending including our Lead Wilderness Ranger, talked to them today and they are excited! We will clean fire rings, pick up garbage, clean up campsites along with other tasks. No experience required. There will be a brief safety talk and volunteer agreements will need to be signed before heading out. We will be doing trails off Cascade Lakes Hwy.  Trails include Green Lakes, Moraine Lake, Lucky Lake and Six Lakes. The most physically fit need to go in the Green Lakes group. Those short on time and energy would be best at Lucky Lake. Bring your 10 essentials, water, lunch and layers. Work gloves or plastic gloves would be great otherwise everything else will be provided. No dogs please. This will be followed by optional food and drink in town at Deschutes Brewery. We have prizes too. If you need to leave early that may also be possible to arrange. Thanks for your help, let's leave the trails looking good for spring. Spread the word, you don't have to be an Adventurer to attend. Bring a Friend! We need as many volunteers as possible.

Encouraging biking, walking, carpooling or parking at Ray's if Safeway lot is full. Looks to be a dry sunny day!

Bonus: As a participant in National Public Lands Day, we all get Fee Free Coupons. So you can go to places like Crater Lake for Free.

The solitude here at Lancelot lake is splendid. Not a soul in sight. Found two more fire rings at denude lake and cleaned them up. Thanks all for coming out!

Good suggestion Heather, who'd a thunk it that a pretzel and cobbler would constitute a meal. Yummers!!

Good Golly Miss Molly, How about another Clean Sweep Hike with the USFS this fall?

Unfortunately, they don't have time for another. We can keep picking up trash just can't do any other work. They do make volunteer work more fun. If you track your hours with USFS, you can earn a free NW Forest Pass and go to the volunteer appreciation party each fall.

Look forward to next year. It was so rewarding! I call to others to get involved next year. Thanx to the rangers--they do so much more than anybody knows.

concur with David. We had a Ranger plus 3 and
it worked well - we could have done more had there been more to do.

Thanks for helping clean up the Wilderness. It was a fun day and evening. We will do it again next year. Tom Cappy got the nastiest discovery award. Sisters Mirror Lake team got the most trash and fire rings.

Good outing. Well led and informative. Glad to contribute. Thanks Ranger John. OH, & Thanks Safeway for the chow & the coffee & pastry to go I bought, but also for letting us use your lot! You're a good neighbor. And, as usual, GOOD JOB, Molly!

After Party at Deschutes Brewery downtown! Try to be there by 5:30pm and ask for the Wilderness Volunteers. You can invite family and friends that did not hike. Some Rangers will be on hand to share stories of the summer.

I hope I win the C.O. hiking book since most everyone seems to have one already. I missed Sullivan when he came! Looking forward to this work party.

The books and a hat will go to those that don't already have one and those that show the most enthusiasm for trash finding. You will have a good chance at winning.

Great hike up Todd Lk Broken Top yesterday, 9/20. Encountered 55 people, 14 dogs and 2 horses (8AM-2:40PM). Over 40 cars at the Todd Lk lot. Very clean, no errant camps/fire rings - no "hygiene" "issues"!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
