INW Arduino Introductory Class

For those who are interested in taking the INW Arduino Introductory Class

Permanent Schedule: Every other Wednesday at the Product Innovation Location

Classes will be held every other Wednesday night for 6 weeks. We have setup a Meetup.com site named Bend Arduino Group. http://www.meetup.com/Bend-Arduino-Group/

The class is listed as the INW Arduino Introductory Class. Please join the Meetup group and RSVP the class to receive all the class information.

Things you need for the class:

1. Arduino Starter Kit (information below where you can buy one)

2. Arduino IDE (free software, download here, http://arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

3. Computer (either Windows, Mac or Linux)

You don't have to buy or download the Arduino IDE before the beginning of the first class but you should want to have both the Arduino IDE and a Arduino Starter Kit for the second class. Generally you need a laptop for the class. I recommend you buy an Arduino Starter Kit. Kits range fro $30 to $130. Locally Radio Shack sells a $60 and a $130 kit.

There are many sources for Arduino Starter Kits. Some reliable online sources for an Arduino Starter Kit are:

- Sparkfun Electronics https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11226 for $60.

- Amazon http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=the+arduino+starter+kit&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=14493991357&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=1590037634112407221&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_4v7woh6f7v_b

- Makershed http://www.makershed.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=arduino+starter+kit&Submit=Search

- Radio Shack Locally Radio Shack sells a starter kits for $60 and $130 kit. If they have it in stock.

General Class Information

We are offering an introductory course to teach individuals to use and design Arduino projects.

If you are interested to attend please email me. If you have any questions, you can call me at [masked].

This class is offered free under the umbrella of the Inventors Northwest group. The class is designed for individuals who have no prior electronics knowledge and is open to anyone with an interest of all ages. The first class will be Tuesday April 30, 6-8 PM to be held at the Techspace and continue for 6 sessions.

By the end of the sessions, the student will be able to design, assemble and write software code to make any number of difference types of Arduino based electronic projects. If you plan to attend please go to Meetup.com/Bend Arduino Group and RSVP the Arduino Introductory Class event.

What is an Arduino?

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

The Arduino project began in 2005 as an educational tool for a design class at the Interaction Design Institute Ivrea, in Ivrea, Italy. The goal was to lure nontechnical people into the realm of electronic design. If an artist seeks to build an interactive sculpture, for example, he or she doesn’t necessarily want to learn advanced electrical engineering concepts along the way. Similarly, non engineering students were often shut out of the realm of microcontrollers thanks to the steep learning curve. Therefore, the nascent Arduino team resolved to make their microcontroller inexpensive, easily programmed, and supported by a community of builders. [The result is over 1 Million Arduino units sold world-wide in 7 years.]

Arduino Documentary (20 minutes)

An award winning documentary was made covering the ideas and beginning of the Arduino project. It is well worth watching to understand the open-source sharing of ideas mentality that has shaped the success of the Arduino and contributed to the growth of the Maker movement.

See you in class on the 30th.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
