Watch 'Breaking Away' at Munch & Movies

Why spend a beautiful Central Oregon summer evening indoors watching a movie when you can spend it outdoors with your BACE riding buddies watching one of the best cycling movies EVER.  As part of NorthWest Crossing's 'Munch & Movies', Breaking Away will be shown on the big screen in Compass Park.

Movies begin at dusk, but there's free music, dinner food and other snacks available for purchase beforehand.  Alternatively, you can bring your own picnic items to enjoy.

Movie watchers are encouraged to bring a jacket and a blanket (or low-profile chairs).

ABOUT THE MOVIE: 'Breaking Away' is a 1979 classic about a small-town teen obsessed with the Italian cycling team who vies for the affections of a college girl. Starring a young Dennis Quaid and Daniel Stern, it is pure cycling fun.

If someone organizes Life of Pi you get off my porch, and actually enjoy the backyard! The "fuzz" will never find us there. Then walk the 2 blocks to the movie.

Life of Pi is not a bike activity so unfortunately it can't be a BACE event. I plan on being there so if anyone else would like to join me send me an email and we can work out the details!

Hey, everyone, just read the horrible news in Bend Bulletin obituary about our cycling buddy, Wes Pierson. Died at Mt. Bachelor a few days back (17th I think). Anyone have the particulars (cycling?)?
Really awful, he was a great guy!

What a great movie! So refreshing to see an old movie that was so entertaining, funny and contemporary. I have watched some of the movies from that time frame that are a snooze. This was great!! (Of course the commentary from Pat and Michelle could have influenced my opinion! :-)

So I am not an organizer, but next week is Life of Pi, an amazing movie. Would love to get a group together to watch (and we could bring food and drink instead of squatting on a local porch) I know, it is not about biking, but it would be great fun!

Wes was riding with another Meetup group (Central Oregon Cycling Club) on a ride that went from Todd Lake area to Lava Lake, Little Lava Lake and then on the Edison-Lava Trail up to Edison Sno Park. I believe he was alone on the Edison-Lava Trail, but another rider in the group, only a short distance from him, came upon him collapsed on the trail. CPR was given to him for sure by paramedics, maybe by fellow riders before they arrived, but it did not revive him. My guess is this was not due to a crash, but possibly cardiac-related. Yes very sad. He was doing what he loved, but still tragic. Let's all try and go to the funeral Saturday and show our support to his daughters and grand-children. I will miss riding with him! An aside, he was a retired cardio-pharmacologist, and a friend of mine (nurse) says he was very well-known for his work in this field.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
