Waldo Lake MTB Pedal & Paddle - Full Day Adventure!

Special Note!  Thanks to John Stockham, we will have two great options for riding the mtb trails along Waldo Lake!  There will be an Advanced-Intermediate Loop (led by Jay) and an Advanced-Beginner Ride (led by John.)  Both rides will start at 9am and we will all lunch and paddle together afterwards!  More Participants = More Fun!

Please note which mtb ride you plan to do when you RSVP.

Who's up for a full day at Waldo lake to mountainbike the area's incredible singletrack and follow up with a refreshing paddle on the lake (kayak/canoe/SUP?)  We'll meet at the Shadow Bay boat launch on the south side of Waldo at 9am.

MTB ride choices are;

The Waldo Lake Loop Trail, an Advanced-Intermediate singletrack with fantastic views of the lake and surrounding area.  The ride takes about 3.5 hours at the moderate pace we'll be going.  The ride is not extreme, but definitely not for beginners.  Please be sure you're comfortable with the distance and elevation gain of the ride.  The pace will be moderate, allowing us to take in the scenery.  We will make several short stops to keep everyone together, but want to keep moving so we have plenty of time for paddling.  Perfect for the stronger intermediate rider....also great for the advanced rider who's more interested in a social ride than moving up the Strava rankings.

Ride Rating;  Upper Intermediate; Endurance Rating E3.5, Technical Rating T3.5
(to see rating descriptions, click "More" tab above and select "Files"), 20.5 Miles and about 2000’ of climbing. About 3.5 hours.

East Waldo Out & Back, an Advanced Beginner & Intermediate ride along the rolling singletrack from Shadow Bay to North Waldo campground.  The ride takes about 3 hours at our relaxed pace with plenty of rest/regroup stops.  A few short climbs and some less-technical rock sections.  Perfect for the intermediate rider or the advanced beginner.  However, not a beginner ride.

Ride Rating;  Advanced Beginner & Intermediate; Endurance Rating E2.5, Technical Rating T2.5 (to see rating descriptions, click "More" tab above and select "Files"), 12 Miles and about 1000’ of climbing. About 3 hours.

After a break for lunch, we'll hit the water for a refreshing paddle along the shore (2-3 hours).  We should be back in Bend between 7 and 8pm.  This will be a long day adventure and participants should be up for this level of activity.

The paddling will be relaxed, social and fun!

A shaky start to the day, but ended spectacularly with a great group of friends (and Lucy the Super Dog!) Great to see John and Carol during their hike around the south lake.

A true adventure in a spectacular setting. What a blast riding in the elements: wind, rain, snow, mud, spotty sun - oh my!

The extreme wetness abated the moment we started to ride and 4 hard core BACEr's did the Waldo clockwise and had a blast! Lucy the JRT was not being left behind and flew down the whole trail!

With the following forecast for the Waldo Lake area I won't be joining the group tomorrow:

I hope it's wrong and the weather is perfect for all of you.

If anyone wants to carpool or caravan, I would suggest meeting at the Albertsons at 61155 S Hwy 97 at 7am to organize and depart by 7:15. However, I will be coming to Waldo from the south, so I won't be be meeting there. Our meeting spot a Waldo Lake will be the trailer parking area above the Shadow Bay boat launch at 9am. Look for my big red Dodge pickup.

Fortunately, the weather is supposed to start improving Thursday and Saturday is predicted to be cool with a 30% chance of showers. Should be great weather for mountainbiking. With adequate wind protection and a hat, the paddling will also be a joy.

Jay, can you set-up a car pool location in Bend? And I would prefer to only "kayak", is that okay and could others do the same (one activity or the other)?

    September 15, 2013

    • Jay M

Hi Dixie, only participating in one activity is ok. Hope to see you there!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
