Night MTB - Deschutes River Trail

The Deschutes River Trail (DRT) is one of my all time favorites, whether on foot, per bike, or night ride. We'll plan to meet 6 PM at Goodlife where we will carpool to the Lava Island DRT trailhead to start the ride.  You can meet us there also at 6:15.  The ride will be at an intermediate level and about two hours in duration.

The ride will start lighted with the sun setting half an hour into the ride at 6:45.  Last year on the DRT:

Lighting.  Folks seem to prefer 100 lumens or more.  Most find the simple 1 Watt LED headlamps insufficient.  I am riding currently with a 650 lumen Nightrider on the handle bars and a 250 lumen Nightrider helmet mounted.  There are many sufficient configurations - let me know if you have questions.

Bring water, energy food, lighting, bike repair gear, and appropriate clothing for inclement weather.

To carpool we'll meet at the parking lot outside Goodlife Brewing in Bend's Century Center.  That's just east of the Dutch Brother's on 14th, or just west of Nosler Corp on Columbia.  We will be in the parking lot on the emptier very north east side closer to Dutch Brothers.  Please be on time so we can leave at 6pm sharp.

I've ridden at night before and found it a fun adventure. My issue is only having a head lamp. Anyone know if lights for a bike can be rented anywhere? I don't ride at night enough to warrant purchasing a light.

FYI ... acting on a hot tip from jefft I stopped in at costco and picked up the three pack of cool 'Duracell' lights ... 250 lumens ... 2 brightnesses plus flashing for under $20 (yes for three!) including batteries... they run on three triple a's.

Hi Bill, take a look at the discussion board as Jeff t brought a light to a ride last year that he highly recommended. We were impressed and it was really inexpensive!
