Let's try this ride again-now 7 months later (weather dependent)! We'll meet at the upper Horse Butte Trail head which is the first small parking area once you make the right turn on the dirt road after the horse butte trailhead sign. We begin with a steady climb up Arnold Ice Cave trail towards Swamp Wells. The trail has a few small rock sections and sections of sand. Nothing is too steep but it is a continual uphill ride for the first 14 miles. After a lunch break at Swamp Wells, we head downhill on a really fun single track! If we encounter snow, we can take a dirt road alternative beneath Swamp Wells and still have a great ride. After all that climbing, we'll deserve a long downhill. Approximate distance 26 miles, plan about 4.0 hours. Let's meet after the ride at Worthy Brewing.....
Weather can be variable at this time of year so plan accordingly and check back on this site for changes to the ride or cancellation due to storm.
As we start to ride in the colder weather we all need to take a few extra precautions and be prepared for problematic situations. Bring a phone and have in mind someone who you could call if needed. Bring hand warmers, food, and a basic survival kit. Wear lots of layers. Wear winter/specific clothing. Err on the side of warmth with your hands and feet. If you don't have winter shoes use warm shoe covers. If you wear something a little light make it your coat, but bring an extra. Please review Gary's tips for winter riding and pack accordingly (see Discussion page)
Bike Rating: Intermediate; Endurance Level E3.5, Technical Level T3 (See Files under More tab)
