With clear skies and a high of 52F we have a window for one more night ride. It will be dark and 40F by the time we ride - dress appropriately. The Coyote Loop by Horse Butte is 10 miles and perhaps now my favorite night ride. We rode it Monday and conditions are adequate. It's mostly dry - some moisture, mud, and frost in the shade. Please expect a 100 minute ride.
Though the terrain is moderate, the conditions at night will make the terrain more like an intermediate ride and require that you have very, very good lighting.
Folks seem to prefer 100 lumens or more. Most find the common 1 Watt LED headlamps insufficient. I feel comfortable with a 650 lumen Nightrider on the handle bars and a 250 lumen Nightrider helmet mounted. There are many sufficient configurations.
Bring water, food, lighting, backup lighting, repair gear, and appropriate clothing for inclement weather.
To carpool meet at the parking lot outside Worthy Brewing on the north side near the green houses. Please be on time so we can leave at 6pm. You can also meet us 6:15pm at the trail head.
