The Steins Pillar trail is a one hour drive from Bend in a remote area a few miles east of Prineville.  The 44 million year old pillar stands 350 feet above the wooded hillside.  No dog rules here, so let them run off leash!

This is hike #93 in the Bend, Overall book.  Here's a link for more info on the trail:   http://www.katu.com/outdoors/destinations/32559604.html

Nice meeting everyone! I really enjoyed the hike and meeting everyone and watching the dogs run around! I'm glad I could also provide you all with the added adventure of pushing my car up the hill! 8)

It's about 04:30 and my arthritis hasn't let me sleep yet, so I'm thinking I should cancel my participation in the hike. Have a great day. I'm sorry I can't be there.

Looks like I will not be able to go on the hike. I unexpectedly have to watch a young teen instead. Not sure if kids are allowed so I will open a spot up for another. I've done this hike it should be beautiful tomorrow. Enjoy!

Hi Everyone! Excited to come on my first meetup with this group! I live in Redmond and so will also meet everyone at the Prineville Starbucks at 10am. Also, I know my fiance would love to join if that is possibility. Are we able to do "+1's" with this group? I totally understand if that is not possible. See you all on sunday.

    January 3, 2014

    • Mark D.

Also, yes, we do allow +1's on this meetup group. But please add the +1 when you do your RSVP as we do have capacity caps. Your fiance is more than welcome to come along this Sunday!

    • Angie

Thanks mark! I think I did not see the +1 option originally because the meetup was full at that time. See you tomorrow.

Good morning all. We have been doing road trips and hiking with the dogs for the last several days so I am going to bow out of the trip tomorrow and give someone else a chance. I know it's a beautiful place and hope to go on the next one. However I would like to announce that I will be having a "birthday bash benefit" on April 12 for Central Oregon animals and was hoping to have some participants from this group join in for the all day event. It will be fun with food, music, beer and hopefully more. Details are being worked on at this time but it was be a fun event to benefit our animals in need. Feel free to contact me for more information. Have a good time tomorrow all.

Hey Mark... Thank you so much for all the work you put into this group last year, and for the dedication that is obviously drawing you into continuing in 2014. You have my appreciation as well as my admiration. "Dog people" are special people, and there is no more special group than the folks I've been privileged to know in this group. Bless you, one and all, and a joyous New Year to everybody.

Hello Thomas. Thank you very much for your kind words. I have loved this group from the day of my first hike with the group in May of this year. When I was recently asked to take over as Organizer of the group I was hesitant because I didn't know if I could do a good job. Your words of support are very encouraging. So glad you're a part of this group!

Hi there! I was wondering if anyone knows if the trail will be packed with snow. I'm not sure how much it snowed in Prineville...

    December 27, 2013

    • Mark D.

I doubt if there will be much snow there at 4200' elevation. With all the warmer temperatures we've been having I think there will have been substantial snow melt like what we've experience here in Bend. However, there may be some ice on the trail, so I would suggest you bring yak traks just in case.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
