Sunset at Smith Rock Photo Hike

Let's get out there! Sunset is at 8pm ish on this day. Hike will be about 3 miles, out and back along river, or about 2+ miles if we go up Monkey Face for a loop hike. Monkey Trail is steep, and the Misery Ridge trail is steep too, but the view from the top are awesome during the sunset hours.

Grab the camera and your day pack and come hike along the river at Smith Rock for some sunset shots at Smith Rock. We'll hike along the river trail and back or if some like we can go up Monkey Face trail and go back down Misery Ridge.

We'll meet at Cascade Village Mall at 6:30, should give us plenty of time to get some pre sunset shots at Smith Rock. We'll need some drivers.

Good meetup. Thanks to Michael and "H" for getting Suzi and I over the saddle safely. We decided to take class 4 scrambles off our bucket list.

The hike was great, but I should have set it up for about an hour earlier. We didn't go up to the top, because it was too late. So we went out and back along the river. Thanks for those who came!

Might go on my own and meet y'all there if I have a car available. I want to shoot star trails and milky way while I am there.

If you can't walk at least 3 miles with some elevation, please consider not going on the event.
Also, remember we could be hiking back in the dark, so bring a headlamp or flashlight. Thanks.

I have not been to Smith Rock Park, it sounds like a great place for Sunset photos. However, I have a disability which I need to consider. I frequently walk about 2 - 3 miles with my dog on surface streets in Northwest Bend. With my disability, (Parkinson's Disease), I usually walk between 1.5 to 2 miles per hour. I also enjoy photo walks along the Deschutes River Trail in Bend; On my photo walks along the Deschutes my stamina (energy level) is usually good for about 2 - 3 hours of continuous physical/mental activity. That said, While I would love to participate in the Sunset at Smith Rock Photo hike, I have decided to pass on this particular meetup for health and safety reasons.

    How can I add a 'plus 1' ?

I believe if you add a +1, you might get put on the waiting list, since it would put us over the group size limit.

I know some of you aren't hikers so I wanted to be sure I gave you the correct info. I checked my GPS and from the parking lot to Monkey Face is about 2 miles, so out and back would be about 4 miles.
It's another 1.25 mile from Monkey Face over to Misery Ridge and back to cars, for a total of 3.5 miles, but as most you know it's a good hike to the top.
I would say since we are in Smith Rock, go as far as you can and turn back if you need to. Let's just be sure no one hike back alone.
Remember to bring a headlamp or flashlight in case we are heading back in low light.

We'll all hike along the river to Monkey Face, from there we can split into two groups, one group can head back along the river and another can head up to the top and back down Misery Ridge. We should all get back to the cars about the same time or close to it.

This sounds like a great photo opportunity for Sunsets, landscape and possibly Wildlife. I'll go as long as "3 miles out & back" = 3 miles total not 3 miles out and 3 miles back= 6 miles total.

Looks fun! Remember parking passes are needed, or you can pay there. http://www.oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkRates&parkId=36
