Announcing a new Meetup for Bend Photographers Group!
What: Auto Racing
When: Saturday, May 22,[masked]:00 AM
Private race track
Sherman County, OR
This event is a little ways out, but since it's a "bigger" trip, and I know how quickly summer weekends fill up, I'm posting it now.
This is a workshop offered by Bob Davis, a local photographer and instructor at COCC. Below is information about the event, as well as a link to enroll through his site. If you do plan on going, however, please RSVP here through Meetup as well so people can arrange carpools if they'd like.
*****************Auto Racing at its Ultimate Finest
Be the first to photograph at this racetrack!
A Team Continental ICSCC race. Proper Motorcars, like SCCA.
May 22 & 23, 2010
Time: 9 AM each day (subject to minor changes)
Location: This event will take place in Sherman County Oregon on a "private racetrack." This track is a 2.3 miles road circuit with 14 corners, a road surface of 40 feet width, with an accumulative elevation change of 400 feet.
Cost: $150.00 per person
Itinerary: Sent upon enrollment
Limited to fifteen (15) peopleAbout the event
This race track is new. It's so new, they barely have the asphalt down, there are no bleachers, water flushing toilets, shade, or amenities other than port-a-potties. This will be the very first race sanctioned on this track - that's right, the very first race on a brand new race track. We have been invited to share in the festivities, celebrating their first Motorcar race, truly an ultimate experience. You will be the first folks to see this track in action for a sanctioned Motorcar race. This is definitely a rare occasion, being part of the first ever race on a new racetrack.
Photographer Locations: Sorry, center line on the track is not allowed. There will be a "mandatory safety meeting" prior to entrance of the track area. There are many good viewing areas and there is plenty of room for fifteen photographers at various locations around the track. Should you wish to be in the "turn stations" (these are ten feet above the ground and well protected) where the flaggers stand, will be done by lottery provided the racing association is willing to allow us to do so.
Selling photos: You are not vendors, you're attendees. You will not be allowed to sell photos to the drivers and/or car owners without prior arrangements, including the signing of contracts, with the track owners and the racing association.
Race Cancellation: Should the race be cancelled because of weather (most unlikely) or lack of EMT's/Ambulance in attendance, or any other reason, no refund will be given, instead we will reschedule and return at a later date.
Lodging and meals: It is recommended that folks stay at the motel in Moro, or at the many places in Biggs Junction (I-84 and Hwy 97). Breakfast may be at the track, this may change due to scheduling. Lunch each day will be in Grass Valley, Oregon (population 175) and will be hosted by Jim and his wife Carol of the Grass Valley market.
Gear: Plan on bringing lots of memory cards and batteries. Long lenses and short lenses, polarizing filters, graduated Neutral Density filters, Hat, ankle supporting foot wear, lip balm, sun screen, and more.
What to see: Lots of cars going round and round with Mount Jefferson, Mount Hood, Mount Adams, and Mount Rainier in the background. This area, Sherman County, has a walloping 12 inches of rain each year so we should have wonderful blues skies to fill our view finders.
