Pat and I got to play with my 2 month old Nikon 85 micro (as Nikon call a macro lens) lens this morning. On my D5000 this translates to a focal length of about 125mm. With a minimum focus distance of .9 feet, this is what you get without cropping.

Whereas grandiose landscapes risk an anti-climax (due to the shrunken size in a photo), macro photography offers the opposite--big surprises! This tiny bloom that Roger shot would fill the area of postage stamp, yet using his macro lens, the world just got larger.

Wow, what a lens! It's like a miniature bouquet of white roses. I just love macro photography. It opens a whole new world of things you wouldn't normally see.
