Yes, random readings, like the above. Or that poem by Lalmohan babu's Bangla teacher who captured the beauty of the moon in this famous line, "Jaeno sodyo kaata nokh porhe aachhe nobhe...." That reminds me, can we have a repeat recitation of the ode to the pantaloon-eating mice? Or Changayani Sudha and the like?

Makes no sense? Come, find out for yourself.

And - members willing - a trip to our very own Curry Hill afterwards.

I wish I could join tomorrow night and get to meet all of you, but life interrupts. Definitely the next one. In the meanwhile, I need to pull out one of my very few Bangla books and start reading :) Wishing a fun night to you guys. Cheers, Adina

Hi Adina, sorry you couldn't join us. I look forward to seeing you in the next one. We need to exchange notes because growing up, Feluda was my hero too ;)

Excellent, as usual. Good to meet the new members. Great readings, nostalgia, plenty of food (complete with shingara that our host went to the end of the earth to bring to our table, almost like the Indians who brought corn to the Pilgrims) - and finally a trip to the famous "H(n)aari", as Sourav put it.

Great!!! We read a lot of childhood classics like Tuntunir golpo, Tenida etc. We talked about Bengali folktales, we also read a little bit of 'Hutum Pychar Naksha.' Also it was nice to see soe new members.

I just got back home after an inadvertent 24 work shift. How long is the ADDA going to last? Don't want to reach when everyone else has left the premises!

I will leave my place in about 10 minutes. I live in Midtown. So 8:30?

      Sure - see you!

I might have a 3 yr old cat tomorrow evening in the apt. Are people ok with it? Else I can make alternate arrangements for the cat. The cat is friendly, and is unlikely to come amongst us as most people are new to him. The cat might be there only tomorrow night, and would not be there in subsequent meetups if any.

I get your point, but I am not sure if their is any evidence for this more than anything anecdotal. In any case it is a matter of what you are comfortable with. As I mentioned there is not cat and minimal cat litter exposure. Up to you if you want to be there, you can check the place when you come in if it is up to the litteracy level.

Looking forward to my first meetup. Only problem is, all my Bangla books are in public storage (long story) so I won't have any reading material. Is that acceptable?

    August 23, 2013

    • Tapoja C.

Sourav, I have some books - tenida, feluda, satyajit roy galpo collection, gitanjali, pather pachali + aparajito, suchitra bhattacharya collection. And Siddhartha would be having some of his own. So we will have for you to read. If you would like to read something from the above mentioned list, do let me know, and I can bring it with me. Or you can choose to listen too :). But as Siddhartha said - it would be great if you do get motivated after this and get your books out of storage - that will add to our reading pool.

Please do attend, Sourav, don't worry about not bringing any book - we will have plenty to entertain all. See you soon!

Siddhartha, due to earlier experience with "friendly" dogs and cats, my request is please make an alternate arrangement. The earlier experience is a story that I can recount when we meet. Sorry for the trouble and please do not think I am an animal hater - it's just that I am not as comfortable in close proximity of 4 legs as I am with 2 ;) I hope it won't be too much of a trouble for you.

Sangeeta, of course, moving takes a lot of energy out of oneself. Aslo sorry to hear about your back. Do take care of yourself as health is one of the most precious things we have. We will catch up later.

I don't have any films - maybe one Grihadaha dvd, but I haven't seen it. I was thinking of streaming from Youtube, but I know that your internet connection is not conducive to streaming. I was anyway not talking about tomorrow. I might have to be there for 1.5 - 2 hours, as I have to go to Bobst library in the morning to work with someone, and have low energy days nowadays. So might not be able to stay out for long. But others, of course, are free to see a film, if they have the time to do so.

Hi Sangeeta - good to hear from you but sorry to hear about the lower back spasm - hope it gets better soon! Let me know if you need any help. We'll miss you at the meetup - hope to see you soon at the next one.

Hello everyone. There is too much going on in my life right now. Moving to a new apartment on the 29th, girls are starting new school and on top of that I have a lower back spasm for which I had to go to the A&E last Sunday. Have a great time. I will miss you all.

Since Rupa is quoting from Feluda, I can read some Feluda. Or stick to Bibhutibhushan's Aparajito as I am really liking it. Shobai ke kichu ekta porte hobe kintu.
