Why do you want to join the group?

I feel the urge to connect with fellow Bengalis who strongly believe that being Bengali means something beyond Durga pujo (or any pujo, as you said). I am disheartened to see that it is so difficult to meet people who are interested in Bengali art and culture, and particularly literature. I have been avid reader of literature in both English and Bengali throughout my whole life, and would love to meet other people who share my passion.

What are the things that you would like the group to do?

Act like a book club, read books together. Perhaps watch Bengali indie films together and discuss.

Why do you think you are a Literary Bengali?

Why? Because I moved to NYC on 27th June, and the very first thing I did after somewhat settling down was to rush to get my membership at the NYPL and start checking out Bengali books. Also I have been reading Bangla literature since I was a toddler, and haven't stopped since.

Introduction

Hi, I am a Kolkata born-and-brought up bangali who grew up watching Satyajit Ray and Mrinal Sen, and even today cannot let a day pass without reading some Bangla literature everyday. Professionally I am an environmental anthropologist.

What Tapoja C. is saying about this Meetup Group

I have hardly met any other group who are so keen on reading and sharing thoughts on Bengali poetry and literature. Every time I go this meet-up group I get to hear about new poets, new writings, and become more and more keen to keep this going even when I might have work related deadlines. Also I don't remember having such a group of like-minded Bangalis even when I was in Kolkata. So thank you Meet Up for providing such a great platform to find people with similar mentalities. Further, kudos to Satarupa for initiating the group and also introducing a wonderful screening process that ensures that only people who are interested in shahityo related nirbhejal adda joins it. It is amazing that even when we talk for hours, sometimes laugh till we have tears in our eyes, how much our conversation naturally steers away from PNPC or the temptation to ask personal questions. Every time I go to such a session, I am in a very good mood for at least next two days.
