Do you gleefully comb the various literary prize lists for book suggestions? Do you seek out foreign authors, or are you tired of reading sappy made-for-movie-adaptation tales about people's pets?

If so, this group is for you.  This book club is structured to expose readers to a variety of non-American authors and cultures.  We pick challenging books that are entertaining, but also representative of the enormous diversity of literature in the world that the average reader isn't really exposed to, such as the aftermath of political regime change, cultural shifts, immigration and social growth.

Some of the authors we have worked through are: Christos Tsiolkas, Yiyun Li, Amitav Ghosh, Elfriede Jelinek and Orhan Pamuk.

Come join up!  Sip a suitably hip beverage and bring your opinions, your brains and your willingness to make new friends over a good book!

Our Rules:

1.  Inactivity:  Member profiles who are inactive for > 3 months will be removed from the group in an effort to keep the group full of active participants.

2.  RSVP's:  Rico's wine bar is small and sometimes very busy, especially in winter months.  Please help our group be polite to the other patrons by having an accurate head-count of who will be attending.  This means that members who no-show 2 times without contacting an Organizer or updating their RSVP status will have any already scheduled RSVP's cancelled.  Life happens, we all have emergencies, so changing your RSVP is fine, even the day-of.
