Develop Web-based databases using ASP.NET and SQL Server - Lesson 3

If you've ever wanted to make the jump from MS-Access to powerful Web-based databases, now is your chance!

This class is the third of a low-cost summer series of hands-on classes for learning how to develop Web-based databases using ASP.NET and SQL Server from the ground up.

The first 3 classes will be on Tuesday evenings, 6-7:30pm 7/1, 7/15 and 7/29 at Robert Half Consulting (the same room that the Microsoft Access/SQL Server Users' Group meets) and costs $75 per person per class.  To get the maximum results, start with the first one and join us every two weeks as we show how to convert Microsoft Access's Northwind database into a web-based database using ASP.NET 4.5 with Visual Basic and SQL Server 2012, and Visual Studio 2013.

This is a hands-on class during which the two instructors, Dan Stern and Ralph Davies, alternate between demonstrating examples and giving examples to practice with on your own machine while we assist you.

Prerequisites: advanced knowledge of MS-Access including designing forms that utilize VBA.

Focus: Building database-driven web sites using ASP.NET/VB and SQL Server.

After the first 3 classes, you will know how to build a simple web-based database application with a user-friendly data entry/editing form.

More topics (for example, additional Ajax controls, subforms, and emailing programmatically) will be covered on a bi-weekly basis after the first 3 classes if there is sufficient interest.

To prepare:  bring a Windows laptop machine with:

-- Visual Studio 2013 Professional (the free 90 day trial is at )

-- SQL Server 2008, 2012, or 2014 (either the express of full version).

-- Microsoft Access 2010

Also please bring a check for $75.00 made out to "Dan Stern Data Systems", or cash, for each class.

See for examples of some of the features we will cover during the lessons.

See you there!
