Are you interested in Morris dancing? Have you ever heard of Morris dancing?

"Morris" is a general term used to label several distinct forms of seasonal folk dance: the springtime dance of the Cotswold with its intricate foot and handwork (that's what we tend to do), the raucous winter stick dances of the Welsh Borderlands, longsword dances with Germanic origins, and the antics of the cross-dressing Molly dancers from East Anglia.  Shakespeare was making fun of Morris dancing before it was the thing to do, and that means this tradition has been around for a long time.

You may have seen Morris dancers at a local Renaissance Faire (we're the ones with bells on our legs wielding large sticks), or you may have seen us at sunrise May 1 at Inspiration Point in Tilden Park.  And sometimes we just take to the streets, so if we haven't yet had a chance to say hi, please consider this a formal salutation.

Members of Berkeley Morris hail from all over the Bay Area, and include people of many professions, ages, genders, and general outlooks on life.  You may have danced across from one or two (or three) of us at a contra or Irish or other BACDS event.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
