Collaboration: share, teach, create, promote, learn

Hi music pros,

I am hoping that we can use our time most efficiently when we meet for the first time. We will try to set up teams based on interests and needs. On the agenda for the first meetup:

1. What do members want to accomplish? Each member should have a clear goal for collaboration or teaching/learning. What do you need? What do you have to offer?

2. What genre(s) are members interested in? Musical tastes and backgrounds vary tremendously. Be clear and forthcoming about the genre(s) of music that you would be willing to collaborate in: classical, folk, hip hop, electronica, whatever, ...

3. Suggest a workshop: If you are an expert or semi-expert in an area please consider doing a workshop: protools 10/11, composition, music business on the web, whatever you are good at....

Please suggest a venue. I was considering Revolution Cafe in SF but it's hard to get seats and the cigarette smoking is not for everyone. Let's think of a place.

best,

Bobak

My times are flexible. Just let me know when you guys want to next meet up. We can meet at your place too.

It's not an online platform - I was just mentioning off hand there's a lot of software to enable it.

Thanks for a great meetup guys. William can you please share the online platform for collaboration? When would you want us to come by for the next meetup? I think it's generally best if we have our meetups in a recording studio, whenever possible. I am happy to make mine available for meetups.

I'm a singer/songwriter and will likely attend. I'm interested in co-writing, recording and performing original material. I'm looking for folks who earnestly share taste and goals.

I just happened to think to check. There is a SF Giants Home Game today. This makes parking in SOMA much more difficult and expensive. :(
Consider taking public transport or riding your bike (or both with BART).

if people are willing to come to Berkeley i know a great place to meet at - the Cafe Au Couqulet - on University - open till real late..very large and roomy -- easy to find parking (forget the comment on the yelp i live here i know..(as opposed to S.F. where there really is NO PARKING!)..no bridge charge if you are from the East Bay..easy going - decent inexpensive menu - nice cakes and cookies!- VERY USED TO GROUPS MEETING HERE..IT HAPPENS REGULARLY!! - and REAL close to BART!

    1) I would really like to record an EP. However, at this time, I sing only. I haven't written since HS and I don't know how to play any instruments. :(
    2) I love just about everything except country so I'm pretty open here. However, I always thought my first recording I would like to do something jazz-inspired a la Fiona Apple meets Ella Fitzgerald.
    3) I'm not sure I could teach a workshop related to music until I get myself back into the swing of singing more regularly.
    4) And since I'm new to CA I have NO idea about venues, but once I'm settled I'm sure sitting in my apartment in Oakland would be ok! :)

Other Meetup groups use Crossroads Cafe for small to medium group sizes. http://www.yelp.com/biz/crossroads-cafe-san-francisco-7

Should the group ever need a larger venue for presentations, Sports Basement on Bryant has a community meeting room. This requires a reservation but I believe it is free of cost.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
