Vegan Soul Food in Oakland

Hi Everyone, The Meetup's next outing will be at Souley Vegan in Oakland. This is a new vegan soul food restaurant that's been getting great reviews! They offer collard greens, yams, BBQ tofu, mac and cheese, and more. Fearless group member Lee (see his profile for his pic) has offered to host this Meetup. Some of you might recognize Lee, since he's been to several meetups. Thanks for helping share the load, Lee! Just exit 12th St BART at 14th Street and you're only steps away. By the way, you can also find Souley Vegan at the Lake Merritt farmers market. Hope you can make it! --John NOTE: I'd like to keep our meetups small enough for everyone to be cozy and to share in the conversation, so space is limited. In consideration of your fellow diners, please RSVP only if you're sure you can come so you don't prevent someone else from attending. And if something comes up, please come back here and change your RSVP ASAP. Thanks!

The food I ate was good quality. I love that one of the boys working there said his Mom cooked the food earlier that day. The server was very slow & inexperienced or untrained, i.e. carrying one glass of water to a table of 8 people, when we had ordered water for everyone several times. Or delivering food without utensils so that the potato salad had to sit there until a utensil, easily carried with the food, was brought. That seemed to elude the server.

Also, the place didn't have enough tables for all people. It's great that they have the business! We noticed that there is an unused upstairs and wonder if they have plans to attempt to use the space.

I would return if in the neighborhood, but wouldn't travel to downtown Oakland to go to that restaurant.

The food was great. The place was small but we were able to squeeze together three tables for the eight of us.

The food was great, however the restaurant was out of certain fare(mashed potatoes, corn bread, lemon cayenne drink) so we were a little disappointed about that. Also, I noticed one person at our table didn't get her meal for a long time.
