Thanksgiving Dinner at Symphonie

Hi, fellow plant muncher,

(Note that this event starts at 4 p.m.)

Symphonie is one of the few restaurants open on Thanksgiving, and members have enjoyed their Thanksgiving meals there, so let's go back for the third year in a row (50 members came the first year!). It's starting to feel like tradition.

They haven't decided on the menu yet, but I'm told they'll have similar dishes to last year's—"Thanksgiving-y" dishes such as Rosemary Chicken, Champagne Chicken, etc. (all vegan), plus fixins. There may be soy-free and vegetable-based dishes too. If and when I get the final menu, I'll post it on the Meetup website.

Symphonie is in a cute shopping district in Point Richmond, about 20 minutes north of Berkeley. Here are directions from Berkeley/Oakland:

  1. Take I-580W (north).
  2. Exit I-580W at Canal Blvd.
  3. Turn LEFT onto Canal Blvd.
  4. Turn RIGHT onto Cutting Blvd.
  5. Turn LEFT onto Dorman Dr./S Garrard Blvd.
  6. Turn RIGHT onto E. Richmond Ave.
  7. Symphonie will be on your right just before Park Place. Use their parking lot, or park on the street.

The restaurant is pretty big, so I'm putting a high cap on this event to avoid a waiting list. As always, please be considerate of the restaurant, and RSVP yes only if you truly believe you will be able to make it. If you RSVP and then discover that you can't come, please update your RSVP right away.

I pay Meetup about $200 per year to organize this group. And that doesn't include the time and energy I spend choosing restaurants, making reservations, answering emails, and such. So please chip in a couple bucks to reimburse me, either on the Meetup site or at the event.

If you are bringing guests (great!), please put their first names in your RSVP comment, so I can make name tags for them too.

Finally, to all those who have come out to a event, shared their knowledge and opinions and stories, and contributed to this group, thank you. It's been a privilege to organize these events. I hope to see you at one soon.

With thanks,

P.S. I do freelance copyediting and proofreading. If you know any organization that could use my services, please hook us up. Thanks a bunch!

The company was excellent, of course. The food was tasty, as usual. The service could have been better: Our table of 23 was being waited on by only one person, and the kitchen was apparently having a hard time keeping up.

The food was healthful but slow in getting there and some people were done eating by the time someone else started. Also the food was lukewarm. But good conversation and nice to see so many willing to come out and support a vegan restaurant and make a statement against animal abuse.

The food was good, and could stand up to any traditional Thanksgiving meal.

Hi, Nellie. Yes, you would need to join any group whose activities you want to participate in. The meal will likely cost somewhere around $20, plus tax and tip. It's all vegan, and everyone orders separately. The age range of the group is very wide, and all ages are welcome. See you at dinner.

I am new to meet up. I see there are multiple groups in the bay area. Do i need to join each and every group to attend activities sponsored by each group?

Thank you for taking the time to organize this event, John.

What is the cost of the meal?
    Is the menu all vegan?
Does everyone order their separate food or does everyone enjoy food from a pre-determined menu?
What is the age range of the group? I am on the mature side and not sure if your group has a targeted age range.

    Thank you.
