Dinner at Herbivore

Hi, Everyone, I hope you're enjoying the clear skies while they last. The last event filled 32 minutes after I emailed the announcement. Wow! Great, right? Thing is, almost no one who RSVPed right away actually came to the event--8 out of 10 eventually changed their RSVPs to "No." Sure, things come up, but so many dropped out that it leads me to think some people are just trying to get their feet in the door early in the off chance they might be able to make it. That leaves most people who would come in limbo on the waiting list, making it difficult for them to plan their evening. So please be considerate of your fellow plant eaters and RSVP "Yes" only if you have EVERY REASON to think you will be able to make it. And thank you to those of you who change your RSVPs well in advance of the event. OK, on to the food! We haven't been to Herbivore since July and someone asked to go, so why not? Herbivore is a vegan restaurant where you can get pasta, kebabs, sandwiches, salads, and a bunch of other dishes. Even cocktails, of you're so inclined. The food and decor are good, and it's walkable from Downtown Berkeley BART. I was there for a weekday brunch recently and it was pretty full, a good sign in these economic times. Once the event is full, a waiting list starts. It's handled automatically by Meetup. If a spot opens up, a "Yes" RSVP will be entered for you and you'll be notified by email. As always, please only RSVP if you have every reason to think you can come, and if something comes up, please come back and RSVP "No" so someone on the waiting list can come. Thanks! Did you know that Meetup charges organizers? I've been paying $15/month since I took over the group. Plus, it takes time to organize these Meetups (you'd be amazed how difficult it is to make a reservation at some restaurants!), respond to emails, etc. I'd appreciate it if everyone who comes to an event chips in $1 or so--that will almost reimburse me. You can do it here on the Meetup website or in person at the event. It's optional for now, but appreciated. See you at the event, John

Though there were complaints about the food, I always think it's a great place to go because of the wonderful variety of types of dishes.

I had upped attendee the limit from 10 to 12, we had two no-shows (one got the day wrong) and one person showed who hadn't RSVPed, so there were 11 of us, enough to keep at least two conversations going. It was fun!

The food wasn't as good as usual. My dish was unusually salty, and I have a high tolerance for salt. But I still love and will continue frequenting Herbivore.
