Dear Berkeley philosophers:
As you may have noticed, the Meetup website has taken on a new look as of January 27. This is Meetup's doing, not mine. Some functionality has been lost, too: Meetup has removed the option to give an RSVP of "Maybe" to an event (actually, that change was made in December), and Meetup has also removed the ability of members to post "Ideas" that other members can vote on and post comments on.
However, the group still has a message board:http://www.meetup.com/Berkeley-philosophy/messages/boards/
It hasn't been used much, but I encourage members to post suggestions there for future discussion topics, and to comment on other members' suggestions.
For the first time since 2006, I have updated the page About Berkeley Philosophy Reading Group. This page now includes info about expectations of members at meetings, RSVP policy, making suggestions, and costs:http://www.meetup.com/Berkeley-philosophy/about/
We had a good turnout to discuss the extended mind, embodied cognition, and the situated self on January 22, and I look forward to another year of good discussions with this group!
Our next meeting will be a repeat of one held on September 30, 2010, for the benefit of those who were unable to make it the first time, on the philosophy of insults:http://www.meetup.com/Berkeley-philosophy/events/16514600/
This will be on Tuesday, February 22, from 8 to 10 p.m. at Espresso Roma, corner of College & Ashby. (WE NO LONGER MEET AT THE BEANERY since it started closing at 9 p.m.) I hope to see you there!
Organizer, Berkeley Philosophy Reading Group
