The Rex Cinema in Berkhamsted. "Grace Of Monaco" Nicole Kidman

For those of you who haven't been to the Rex in Berkhamsted, it is a stunning Art Deco cinema, lovingly restored and reopened in 2004 with a huge local effort.

Even if you are not sure about the film, the cinema is worth the visit on its own.

Most films sell out here so you will need to be quick.

There are caberet seats at the front of the cinema with tables and a bar serving coffee, alcohol and snacks. Tickets for the caberet area at the front and we have 8 reserved.

Charge is £13.50 (£11.00 for the ticket and £2.50 towards admin, paypal fees, queuing in the rain for an hour, coffee and snacks)

Tables 21 and 22 reserved.

If demand is high, please put yourself on the waiting list and I will see if we can get some more tickets nearer the time.

We can go to Gatsbys for a drink afterwards.

Due to the number restrictions you will need to pay via Paypal when you RSVP.

Review from Rex site

2014, Cert PG, 103 mins

Grace Of Monaco focuses on two years in the life of Grace Kelly (Nicole Kidman) and begins six years after her marriage to Prince Rainier (Tim Roth).

Grace finds herself straddling the fence between her old and new lives: Hollywood beckons (and manifests itself as Alfred Hitchcock in the film) and she finds herself yearning to be needed for her talents, as with her current royal position she is put to little practical use.

Prince Rainier is juggling France’s dissatisfaction with their generous tax policies against the desire to be more self-sufficient and providing for the welfare of his citizenry. It’s not until the municipality comes under threat, where Kelly discovers what’s she’s made of and is able to make more direct and bold decisions regarding her past and future.

The film was panned by the critics when it opened the Cannes Film Festival in May – but it’s up to you to decide whether it’s a sensitive portrayal of a woman in personal crisis or a deeply flawed biopic.

‘Nicole Kidman wafts around as martyred couture lovely, Grace Kelly, in a film so completely wooden it’s basically a fire risk.’ Guardian

‘There is a real febrile intensity to Nicole Kidman’s long-suffering princess that rekindles memories of the performances you would find in Marlene Dietrich or Greta Garbo movies.’ Independent
