AT Backpack - Boiling Springs to Duncannon PA (AGAIN!!!!)

We did this in November and had so much fun at the Doyle that it seemed like a good excuse to do it again... Soooo.....

On Saturday we will meet in Duncannon PA and shuttle cars down to the ATC headquarters at Boiling Springs.  We will hike 14.5 miles north to the Darlington Shelter.  The majority of this day is very flat terrain.  We will have an 800 ft climb right before the shelter.  Water during this section can be 'iffy' so we will fill up when we can.

On Sunday we will continue hiking north into Duncannon.  We will have a few ups and downs, but the mileage will only be about 12.5 miles.  We will then shuttle back to the car at Boiling Spring.  Again water can be 'iffy' so we will fill up when we can. Hopefully we will get to see the views that we missed the last time due to the bad weather.

We will have our post hike carbs at one of the more famous places on the AT - the doyle hotel..(the food is excellent!!!! and the owners are very hiker friendly)  for those of you wanting a unique experience, you may want to head down Friday night and spend a night there...  (you can meet me at the bar.....)

This was a tough trip for animals. We saw a dead hawk, a dying raccoon and had a sick Squirrel. Sorry I showed up late and thanks for waiting. Other than being exhausted, I had a great time. I am scheduling Tuesday off so I have time to review all of Hua's pics :-) Hope to see you all again sometime.

Mark, since we are stopping at the shelter do I need to bring a tent? I was thinking of bringing a 2nd ground pad instead.

The trail, especially at the lower elevations on Saturday could be a sloppy mess.... I was originally thinking of stopping by the Doyle on our way through Duncannon, eating, and then hiking to our cars.... If we are all too muddy, we will hike to the cars, change into some cleaner clothes and then drive back to the Doyle.... Please bring clean clothes, or at mimunum lean shoes and socks, as well as a garbage bag so we dont trash the shuttle cars....

    THANKS

I'm still definitely in for the whole weekend. My +1 will be with us until PA944. She is not camping Sat night, nor is she hiking on Sunday with us. Her parents live in the area, and will pick her up on Saturday @ PA944. I'm still not decided if I will be staying at The Doyle on Friday night, or at my gf's Parents' house near Ickesburg.

For anyone on the wait list, I wanted to let you know that I won't be adding slots... I usually limit the backpacking trips to 8... I will be doing this exact hike again 4 weeks later... March 22-23, fell free to join me then!!!!!
