Hi all, I apologize for not scheduling any meetings in so long. I would put it down to a combination of being busy and wanting to create a better web presence before announcing the next meeting. In fact, I bought a domain at http://berkshirestech.org/ and have been creating a maintainable server configuration so that we can have a Discourse forum at forum.berkshirestech.org (not working yet). This is nowhere near a final product but I didn't want to wait any longer to schedule a new meeting.
As you can see the text on the front page is a placeholder until there is better copy and information. The good news is that anyone can help me improve the site. The source code is available here: https://github.com/berkshirestech/berkshirestech.github.io. To access it you need to use Git, a program for versioning software. I would be glad to help anyone get started with using Git and the Github website. Also if anyone has good design skills and wants to contribute items such as graphics (for example, a logo!) I can incorporate them into a site design.
Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself. I am scheduling a meeting for Sunday at 1PM primarily to discuss the purpose of a website and by extension of the group. My thinking is that by creating a good-looking, useful and actively updated website we can develop a better online community that will make actually meeting in person easier and hopefully more frequent. My initial thought is that we could do a couple things with the website:
• Post news about the group and upcoming meetings
• Maintain a collaborative Google Calendar with interesting technology-oriented events
• Have a discussion forum
• Post long-form essays and stories from members
Let's get the ball rolling! BTW, if you can do Saturday but not Sunday or you can't do this weekend but would be interested in meeting another weekend please let me know so I can consider rescheduling or scheduling more than one meeting.
