the mikkeller beers from copenhagen (especially their IPAs), many of the fantastically hoppy small/medium brewery beers from the USA (Dogfish, Stone, Bear Republic), Unibroue beers from Canada, just about anything from Bellwoods in Toronto...
i tend to like redder/browner/less filtered beers than can be found on tap in Berlin: Rollberg red because of its finish, the fact that it's local and the fact you can only get it on tap. also just about anything from Franken. Kellerbiers (e.g. Zwick'l) and some altbiers.
IPAs, pale ales, kellerbiers and crisp lagers sometimes (depending on mood + food pairings) cream ales and golden ales, stouts, Belgians, saisons
based on the apparent lack of variety in fassbier in Berlin (or maybe i'm missing something?), I'd say it's bad for beer drinkers. I miss the huge range of styles available in other countries. Still, there are some truly fantastic beers available in southern Germany...I just wish I could get them here easily!
i'm an american living and working in berlin...and looking for good beer!
