Berlin Hack and Tell #22 - Summer Hacks

To give everyone a fair chance the registration will open this time exactly 7 days before the meetup. This will be on Tuesday, June 18, 6.30pm. Mark it in your calendar!

Hackers unite!

The summer is back in Berlin and we want to celebrate this with you. You can finally start hacking again and "wow" us with your awesome projects. Let's meet and showcase what you did with a solar powered mind.

This time we are sponsored by Sourcefabric. They are thrilled to meet you all and bring us pizza.

PS: They are hiring, too!

As always we won't want to limit the kind of hacks. Demo cool stuff, no matter if it's an mobile app, website, desktop program or library. Anything is allowed, just cross the line to awesomeness - and if it fails it should do it really beautiful.

There are not many rules, but:

  • You'll get 5 minutes to present in English
  • you or your team should have built it yourself
  • people can ask you afterwards
  • NO PURE SLIDEDECKS, no pitches, only Demos + Code
  • keep in mind that the audiences is highly technical and starts snoring if you do marketing voodoo
  • entertain us!

Gekettes wanted!

Last time we had a lot of Berlin Geekettes with us and it was fun. We hope you enjoyed it as well and like to join us this time, too. Come over to c-base and showcase your work. We'd love to see it!

if( you.isSure ){ bhnt.rsvp(you, true) }

If you come, tell us through Meetup. If you want to present, tell us in the registration form. And if you have feedback please send it to [masked]. Our relaxed event will only as good as everybody makes it. Bring your hacks and your friends and join us for the evening.

PS: Presenters get a reserved seat. If you want to join for sure you should bring a hack and contact us.

HACK THE PLANET!

Cheers,
Keith, Charles and Stefan, your Berlin Hack & Tell organizers

Does anyone remember the API for the Yoda voice from the last event? Can't seem to find it on the interwebs anywhere.

Very interesting :) I´d really like to see people introduce their project/ goal straight ahead first, though. I guess this would help understand the hack right from the beginning (at least for me ;)

Occupation might bias the voting in the end, so I understand why people would not want to share that. ;)

Occupation... yeah, maybe not important. Maybe I was just being curious about the authors context.

I had a wonderful time yesterday. Thanks for all the contributions!

Here's the summary thread for all the presenters so others can get in touch with you: http://www.meetup.com/Berlin-Hack-and-Tell/boards/thread/35752492

Quite interesting. Need to improve my knowledge on some packages and frameworks which I know little about now! ;)

    June 26, 2013

  • qur2

The mood was great, many talks, many topics and all of them were interesting.

thx for the great meetup! Though there weren't many who can recognise characters ;-) ...so if there are still some hidden OCR experts or u know someone who knows someone... then get in touch! a hard but apparently solvable challenge is waiting :)

I am trying to build a universal currency calculator in Clojure this afternoon, if I get something working I would like to share.

    June 25, 2013

    • Callum M.

Sounds awesome, will it include BTC and LTC? :-)

Still on the waiting list. My gaming startup www.Morally.de got funding and is looking for a developer to join our team as a cofounder. Is anyone in here interested or does anyone know someone who may be interested?

    June 25, 2013

    • Stefan H.

This isn't a recruiting event. It's an event where hackers showcase their latest projects to each other.
Having said that, their might be a few interested souls and if you offer this in a one sentence during the flea market session (~ 7.50pm) you might get a response.
Other than that Hack and Tell is off limits for recruiting and marketing.

    • Charel B.

This does not really relate to the event. Please stop it.

Everyone should be now on the YES list who proposed a fitting talk. We just gave away the remaining backup seats and will see you tomorrow!
To the ones on the waiting list: Usually there is a lot of change tomorrow so be ready to receive a notification that you are now on the YES list because someone else can't make it.

I'd like to present https://github.com/Ziv-Barber/officegen, my Office document generator for node.js. I'm already attending (not on the waiting list). I hope that it count as a 'hack' for this meetup.

    sorry hab doch einen Termin.

    June 24, 2013

  • Callum M.

I'd like to present http://composer.io/ a mixture of CakePHP, bootstrap and coffeescript/node.js/restify. :-)

    June 24, 2013

    • Stefan H.

Sounds interesting. I'd be happy to hear more if it's technical. We don't want to hear a pure marketing pitch.

      June 24, 2013

    • Callum M.

Yeah, Franck was telling me it's all about the code. There's a load of angles I could talk about. The coffeescript stuff was all new to me, so I learned a lot there. I figured I'd watch a few to get a feel for how things go then take it from there...
PS> I'm on the waiting list and hoping to present. :-)

To everyone: please comment here if you are on the waiting list and want to present something cool. We will add you to the YES list tonight.

  • Georg J.

Hi, I'd be happy to come and give a short presentation on web search tool Serchilo.net that I just relaunched this weekend.

    June 24, 2013

    • Stefan H.

You are very welcome to do so if you will be talking about the tech behind it and the problems you solved. Please don't pitch it.

      June 24, 2013

  • Benjamin S.

Can't come after all because I can't walk.

    June 24, 2013

    • Stefan H.

Get better and see you next time.

      June 24, 2013

  • qur2

I'd like to present a JS library I wrote.

    3 · June 19, 2013

    • Stefan H.

There's nothing special. Everyone in the audience can present their hack. Just raise your hand when we ask for presentations and be ready to jump on stage.

      June 21, 2013

    • qur2

      Ok, thanks!

      June 21, 2013

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
