I added some text to the photos to add some qualitative information to the talk . But here is the book I can wholeheartedly recommend (apart from my favorite Arab writers Nagib Mahfouz and Taha Hussein). This is a stunning and super-well written history of Cairo's history. Also much of the context of the talks was the fact of Cairo being so huge (hence where are the poor what are they doing and how have their lives improved from the spring revolution?). it's a mega city in today's terms. Check it's relative size! I thought it's higher up in the ranks, but it does have only 15 million (compared to Tokyo at 35 mio). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega-cities#Largest_cities
