If you don't know about the Another Country Bookshop here in Berlin, take a moment to google into it. It's a unique place and was voted one of the "10 Best Bookstores in the World" by Lonely Planet the other year (along with San Francisco's City Lights and Paris' Shakespeare & Co.).
It got its start as an English lending library kind of place 10+ years ago and has since expanded into being a bookstore with a twist - you buy at book at whatever price but if you return it to them they refund the price less 1.5E. Ie its either a low cost bookstore or a high price library. Or both.
The place is eclectic and original and you have to be "down with downtown" to feel comfortable at this Meetup.
The owner of the store hosts a weekly Friday night salon/soiree/dinner where he, sorry, she, cooks dinner for a group of 20 or so people - a mix of newcomers and regulars. Far as I can tell everyone eats whats on offer and then engages in whatever conversation follows.
How interesting is that? And how much would you like to go to it NOT by yourself the first time amirite? :)
