New Product Development Seed Fund: Fireside Chat with Lina Chong

We are happy to have Lina Chong from Hasso Plattner Ventures for a fireside chat on a new product development seed fund Hasso Plattner Ventures has created. Lina Chong has been with Hasso Plattner Ventures  for about a year and is the lead for the new seed fund.

An investment was already made into Version Eye (

In this fireside chat, Lina Chong will tell us more about the seed fund, the idea behind it,  what her investment focus is, the kind products she is looking for , the investment decision making process, the investment criteria and  so forth.

The primary goal of the seed fund is to foster disruptive product development  in the Berlin startup scene (product development phase). The seed fund plans  to make informal seed investments. The advantages of the seed fund are:

  1. Investments are primarily meant to speed up product development and beta-testing in the first 6 months
  2. The seed fund offers very generous terms to founders for an investment of up to EUR100k on a case by case basis..
  3. Plain vanilla term sheet
  4. No commitment from the Hasso Plattner Ventures to make any follow-on investment as  (i) the seed fund is separated from  core funds of HPV (ii) the goal of the seed fund is to foster disruptive product development (product development phase) in the Berlin startup scene
  5. The investment decision process is very short.  Very fast due diligence and decision making

This is all a bit vague. I wish that you could provide us with the "very generous terms," term sheet, application form, and decision time line up front without having to attend a chat (i.e. a little bit more like Xavier Niel's Kima Ventures)
