A lost city (does anyone want to hire a bus/drive?)

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • Hey all,

So there is a place I've wanted to visit for a while but I have no idea how to get there without driving..

I don't drive at all so it's kind of impossible for me. But perhaps people would be interested in hiring a minibus or something and doing a road trip there. It's basically an abandoned soviet town, about an hour or so from Berlin. I reckon because of the location it should be less trashed than most places around Berlin and Potsdam.

    Wünsdorf looks quite interesting.

Anybody up for a trip on the weekend? If it's going to be a small group, I have a car, that can fit 3-4 more people

@Thomas Rupp, you say there is very good security, is this concerning entering the buildings, or even just entering the complex?

Hi Andrei. Did you go? Your post is a year ago. I was wondering if enterin now is still okay or are there fences?

      November 5

    • Andrei B.

Hi Alex, yes I went. but that was already a year ago, so I can't really say whats going on there right now. There was a fence already, it's a private property. The places change so quickly, Vogelsang is about to be teared down, Beelitzer Heilstätten closing this winter as far as I heard.

By train it is 45 minutes to J. Direct connection. And we could bring bicycles.

I was talking about Jueterbog, Altes Lager/Neues Lager. I thought it would be best not to say the name so the place isn't vandalised as much but I guess obviously people need to know the location!

Next Saturday ok with people? Weather is supposed to be clear that day.

Also, people have expressed an interest in other locations, so make new events for them!

      October 5, 2013

    • Thomas R.

:-) I though a different place when you mentioned Jüterbog. Altes Lager / Neues Lager is cool, but closeby there is an even less explored place.

I would be glad to share the costs. Unfortunately I am not a good driver.

Or the huge Russian barracks on B2 near Potsdam. No security, easily accessed and nice.

    October 5, 2013

  • Thomas R.

One could also go to Wünsdorf, old bunkers (open from 2pm daily) and a Russian City which has partly been renovated as houses. But: Very good security there.

Vogelsang can easily be reached by train (1.5h) Or car (1.5h). A bicycle is advisable as the place is huge. One cannot park directly in front of the place, one has to walk some 2.5km through the forest to get there from the train station/raoad.

Also: No Urbex during the week as there is ongoing construction.

I have been there many times ... contact me for more info. :-)

And: I will of course come with you guys!

I'm fine with the train + bike combination.

Great that there are people who can drive, but as people say maybe it draws attention.

A few people have mentioned Vogelsang, surprisingly I've never heard of that myself! I am actually thinking of a place south of Berlin, beginning with J :)

It may also be possible to cycle from a train station, but I have to borrow a bike off of a friend.

Let's see what kind of numbers we have and then we can decide? What date is good for people?

    October 4, 2013

    • Vytautas

Well, Vogelsang is what we get after entering the meetup title "The lost city" and "Berlin" to google:)

      October 4, 2013

    • Vytautas

So how is it called? It's a little hard for me to decide whether I want to go to the place "beginning with J"...

      October 4, 2013

  • Vytautas

Sounds interesting! I can drive too, but if we are talking about Vogelsang, train and bikes would be much better.

The thing is, parking a car next to the abandoned area would draw too much attention and driving in the ghost town itself is not an option too. Bikes would be much more useful as the area is very big.

Julie's link explains it quite well (text and comments).

I would totally agree on the problem with cars /mini bus drawing attention, its enough to have a large group wandering around a place like this without making things harder. And this place is huge - see Google Earth, you can just make out the buildings on there.

This is somewhere I also wanted to visit for ages (I am guessing you mean Vogelsang?!) and looked into the public transport options some time ago. It can be done by taking the train to the stop at Vogelsang (Gransee), using a Brandenburg ticket and using bikes to cycle from the station, or approx 30 minute walk.
It is reportedly in very poor condition and is slowly being demolished. See this post and note the comments made from visitors there this year http://www.abandonedberlin.com/2011/08/bunkers-for-russian-nukes-lost-city-of.html
