The Hike:

Hike up via the Register Ridge Trail to Mt. Baldy and return via the Devils Backbone Trail

Distance: ~8 miles

Gain: ~4,000 feet

Need a National Forest Adventure Pass to park at Manker Flats parking area which can be purchased at any Big 5 or REI stores.

Difficulty: Strenuous

The ultimate short cut to Baldy. Steep, yet satisfying. This well-traveled use trail splits off near the beginning of the Ski Hut trail and runs straight up Register Ridge before intersecting with the Devil's Backbone trail just below Mt. Harwood. Turn left on Backbone Trail to Mt. Baldy Summit. The Register Ridge Trail offers fantastic views on both sides of the ridge).

We will descend Via the Devils Backbone Trail to Baldy Notch. Here, you have an option to hike 3.6 miles down to Manker Flats parking lot or take the ski lift down (cost $12) and walk 1/4th of a mile to the Manker Flats parking lot.

PLEASE - Know your limits and abilities. Bring plenty of liquids and sunscreen when hiking. Check weather conditions and dress accordingly and be aware of your surroundings at all times. It can be windy at the Summit, so bring layers.
