Bexar Grotto Cavers Pages

The Bexar Grotto is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society. We are a group of people interested in the exploration, surveying, and conservation of caves. And we like to get muddy.

We typically explore "wild" caves, not commercial caves with sidewalks and lights. The caves we explore require helmets and lights and usually kneepads and gloves for crawling around. Some caves require rope and vertical gear to climb deep pits, and occasionally even wetsuits for swimming in underground streams. We venture where few people have ever gone, seeing amazing, beautiful formations that have taken hundreds of thousands of years to form, and form life-long camaraderie with people who shared these rare wonders.

We meet every second and fourth Monday at 7pm in the Conference Room at Chester's Hamburgers, 16609 San Pedro Ave, San Antonio, TX 78232 (281 and Thousand Oaks). We usually have 1-4 cave trips per month, as well as monthly rope/vertical practice. Come join us and we'll get you underground and muddy in no time!
