Kaaterskill Falls is a majestic waterfall and beautiful any time of the year. But in October with the changing of the leaves, it gets even better.
The hike to the top and back and any sort of exploring takes at most 3 hours. This hike is very easy and you can either hike to the bottom of the pool or the top of the falls. Sturdy footwear such as hiking boots is recommended to get to the top of the falls as it is very steep.
Finishing around 1 or 2pm leaves plenty of time left over to indulge in the free OKTOBERFEST festival held at nearby Hunter Mountain, with live bands, food, shopping and Germanic culture.
• Meet at 11am at the Parking Lot on the left (as you go up the road toward Hunter) beyond the trailhead. Trailhead coordinates are at[masked]° N,[masked]° W
• Hike back down the road to Kaaterskill Falls Trailhead. Hike up as far as you are comfortable. Snap some pictures and then come back down.
• Meet back in the parking lot around 2:00pm and drive over to Hunter Mountain. You can get something to eat there, as I expect you will be hungry after the hike.
Things you need for the hike:
light hiking boots (recommended to get to the top of the falls) or sneakers, a light jacket as temperatures will fall with the elevation gain, sunglasses if needed, water (1 liter at most).
