JAY PEAK 3 DAY Ski/Board Weekend & Randonee Race (Luxury slope-side condo!!)

Beyond Adventure returns to JAY PEAK.  This year, the Randonee (alpine touring race) will be held on the weekend of March 8-9, so there is no better time to come...

Nestled in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, Jay Peak is famous for it's aerial tram, gladed ski runs and the Jay Cloud, a phenomenon responsible for an average annual snowfall of 377 inches, the most snow in eastern North America.  2011 was a horrible season for snow, but the Jay Cloud did make an appearance, dumping 50 inches of snow in 3 days!  Watch what that was like here:

Imagine the convenience of true ski in/out lodging where you no longer need to load up the car, wait for it to warm up, locate a parking spot and walk to the lift.  Fifteen feet from the front door, you just swoosh down the mountain to the Village lift.  Achieving first chair is no longer a contest, as you are making tracks before the lifts are even spinning.  And forget about selling your firstborn for lunch on the hill.  Just come back to the condo, warm up and make yourself a sandwich.

Of course if conditions for skiing and snowboarding are not up to par, you may find your thrill at the Pump House at the base of Jay which is the second largest indoor waterpark in the country.  In addition to rivers, slides chutes, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, they also have a flowrider (simulated surf park).  Watch it here:

 Cost (lodging & food)

Early Bird (till Feb 15) $199 + $7 paypal fee

Regular (till Feb 28) $229 + $7 paypal fee

Late (till Mar 5) $259 + $8 paypal fee

You can also mail a personal check to me (Tim Rapuano) but it must arrive by the cutoff date to avoid additional fees.

Lift Tickets must be purchased separately.  A 3 day pass at the ticket window currently sells for $189.  A pass for the Pump House (waterpark) is $35 for adults.

Transportation: We will carpool. Jay Peak is a 7 hour drive from NYC. Check the updated carpool policy as it relates to sharing expenses:

Rental Equipment: There are various shops to rent equipment in and around Jay Peak.

Other Activities: Besides the indoor water park, there is also a nordic center for cross country skiing and public skating at the Ice Haus Skating Arena.

Food: We will shop Thursday and Friday nights at a local supermarket with the Beyond Budget :)  This will pay for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Beer may be included if we are beyond enough.

The rental is a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom condo off the Raccoon Run trail.  Just step out the front door, put on your equipment, and head down to the lift!  The condo has space for 10 in beds.  Originally I was going to allow people on floor space, but the renter is being very strict about this policy.

RANDONEE - A Backcountry/Alpine Touring (up and down) Ski Race

The Jay Peak Rando is taking one large step forward this winter.  USSMA has sanctioned our course as a Category II, which means the course needs to be approximately 4000 ft vertical, 5 - 10 transitions, 50% off-piste, and under three hours winning time.  The 2014 course will have ~4000' vertical, six transitions, two boot packs, along with multiple bump and off-piste climbs/descents.  *Please note:  The 5k of Nordic (listed on the map) will not be a leg on any division.

Jay Peak, along with Owl's Head Resort (just over the border) will make up a weekend of randonee racing.  The Dynafit Snow Leopard Challenge is a two-day event at both resorts with the overall champion receiving a grand prize of $500 cash.
