North-South Lake is the largest and most popular state campground in the historic beautiful Catskills Mountains of NYS, and for good reason. In addition to the 2250 foot high elevation lake, the immediate surrounding area offers extraordinary scenic beauty, and historical sites, such as: Alligator Rock, Sunset Rock, Overlook Rock, Kaaterskill Falls, and the former site of the Catskill Mountain House. The provinces around the lakes have long provided visitors with exceptional views of the surrounding countryside. It is said that on a clear day, five states can be viewed from the escarpment.
The North-South Lake area is not only the beginning of the recreational history of the Catskills, but "America's First Wilderness." Artists were first lured to this area to capture the surreal scenery for their paintings in the 1800s. We will camp in this area, and you may choose to hike to nearby popular sites such as Artist Rock, Sunset Rock, Boulder Rock, Split Rock, Alligator Rock, and also Kaaterskill Falls, the highest two-tiered waterfall in NYS. You may enjoy other leisurely activities in the area as well, including lake activities such as boating (kayak/canoe rentals available), fishing (NYS license required), and swimming. North Lake has a beach area as well as a recreational sports area.
In addition to all that, this time of the year will offer FALL FOLIAGE!
This will be car camping, one night Saturday Sept 15th, arriving Sat at 11 am, leaving Sunday afternoon. Two adjacent campsites are booked, with a max capacity of 6 people and 2 cars per site. Campground facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, water filling stations, trailer dump station. Equipment will be typical of any car camping trip, including having a tent, sleeping bag, light source, and other camping amenities you wish to bring. Food will be cooked on a campfire or a camping stove if you choose to bring one. Everyone will be responsible for contributing to food. Firewood is available for sale at campground, and strict firewood policies are in place here.
Feel free to ask any questions and hope to see you fellow Adventure Seekers there!
