Stowe Redux (March 22-24, 2013)

Note: Please pay by St Patrick's Day, March 17th... Thank you!

Stowe is a premier resort in the Northeast with the best terrain and consistent snow (located in Northern Vermont and getting moisture from the nearby Lake Champlain). Last year we had terrific conditions in both early January and early March. Even when it may be rainy in the area, Mt Mansfield (highest peak in Vermont) is at such a high elevation, snow is sure to be found.

Basic Package

  • 2 nights lodging (based on double occupancy) at the Mountaineer Inn
  • 2 day all lift ticket at Stowe (regular price is $92 per day!)
  • 2 HOT Breakfasts

The Mountaineer Inn has nice amenities including a sauna, pool and large hot tub (see pic below). There is also a free shuttle from the town to the mountain with many stops among the access road. One of the stops is directly across the street from the Inn making it easy to get around.

Cost

$242 (+ $8 Paypal Fee)

Add an extra day: $342 (+ $11 PayPal Fee)

Price Adjustments:

  • if 3 to a room, deduct $15 per person
  • if 4 to a room, deduct $25 per person
  • if 1 to a room, add $90

Payment can be made via paypal to [masked]. To avoid fee: there is no fee for bank account transfers on Paypal if sending directly from your PayPal account to mine from PayPal.com (e.g. do not pay via meetup). If you use a debit/credit card, you will need pay a fee. Select “personal – payment due” when selecting payment option. You can also mail a personal check to me (Tim Rapuano) but it must arrive by the cutoff date to avoid additional fees.

Additional Details:

Transportation: We will carpool. Stowe is a 6 hour drive from NYC. Refer to the Beyond Adventure carpool policy here: http://www.meetup.com/Beyond-Adventure/messages/boards/thread/30374572

Rental Equipment: The Mountaineer Inn is adjacent to Pinnacle Sports which rents everything from skis, snowboards, helmets and pants. Pinnacle has some online coupons here: www.pinnacleskisports.com/pinn10coupon.pdf

Rooms: Standard rooms have 2 double beds, porch, a TV and private bathroom with shower. If you wish to have a king sized bed or queen instead of the doubles, please let me know and I can probably get it for you. Most rooms will have an accompanying ski locker (just outside the room in the hallway) for your skis and boards. All rooms are non-smoking.

RSVP: Please RSVP only if you are firm on going. Space is limited to 15 rooms. In the comment field state your status, e.g. who you are rooming with, you you are driving with. I will check paypal to see who has paid. Also, please answer ALL of the RSVP questions; this will help me to coordinate rides and answer other questions for the outfitter.

Optional On/Off Mountain Meetups:

  1. Saturday, 10:30am top of the Mansfield gondola (near the waffle cabin) for intermediate and advanced skiers and riders
  2. Saturday, 1pm at the Octagon Cafe (top of the FourRunner) for lunch
  3. Saturday 3:45pm at The Den (Mansfield Base Lodge) for Après Ski
  4. Sunday 12pm at the Great Grill Room (Spruce Camp) for lunch
  5. Sunday 5pm at Ben & Jerry's (on the way home)

Tim's Tip(s):

  1. In the morning park at Spruce (or ride the free shuttle there).
  2. Use the free electronic lockers in Spruce Camp to store your stuff (take a picture of the locker number with your cellphone).
  3. Take the Over Easy Transfer Gondola to the Mansfield Gondola. The Over Easy runs until 5pm.
  4. Do challenging runs in the morning, when you are rested, and easier runs in the afternoon when you are fatigued.

Hi I'd like to change the happy hour tomorrow to spruce camp. Last time we were at the Den, it was super loud. Thanks!

I just got home and there is an inch of snow on my deck, in Brooklyn. It looks like a great weekend id awaiting for us. Ladies, do not forget to bring your flip-flops for the hot tub!

    March 18, 2013

    • Timothy

The hot tub is indoors, but yes, flip flops are always a good idea.

7-14 inches by Wednesday, and more light snow through the rest of the week! Looking good!

  • Mina

would anyone be interested in driving up Thursday night (I have car)? I'd be working from the lodge on Friday, with breaks to snowshoe or hike.

I'm giving up on winter :(

    March 14, 2013

    • Timothy

i just wrote that stowe got fresh snow, and you say you're giving up. That makes no sense.

      March 14, 2013

  • Timothy

Stowe just received 5" last night. Let's hope for some more freshies by next weekend!

I can drive from Manhattan, and take two passengers with skis (max 1 board)

    1 · March 13, 2013

    • Cordelia

I live in manhattan with a board and promise gas money and cookies to the driver!

      1 · March 14, 2013

  • Timothy

Right now it looks like Jean, Angelika, Derek and myself can all carpool up from NJ, assuming the rood rack situation works out (I can take an even number of boards and skis (e.g. 1 pair of skis and 3 board do not work). On the other side of the river, Graeme can drive up Cordelia & Andrei and or carpool with Dorothy.
