Build a Bridge for mountain biking

  • Aug 25, 2013 · 8:00 AM
  • Henry's house

The BTCEB has been asked to assemble a fiberglass bridge, much like those in China Camp, at a private mountain biking trail up in Petaluma. The bridge kit provides  for pre-cut and drilled Ikea-like assembly. Nothing is heavy and no tools are necessary. What are wanted are willing hands.

We need a half-dozen people with some mechanical skills to support this project. As an extra treat we are invited to ride the new trails amidst the Longhorn cows, peacocks, and the occasional boar. Beer will be provided.

In return the BTCEB will receive a $500 donation to our trail crew fund, sorely needed after our JMP Sunset reroute project. We will set up a carpool, if convenient, from Henry's house in Berkeley Sunday morning.

I'm no engineer but would like to help anyway I can. Is there a trail ride after putting up the bridge or will it be on another day? Just checking so I know whether I can carpool or need to drive.

We will ride after assembling the bridge. As it is a private trail I doubt that there will be much possibility of riding it again. We will travel in a caravan, carpooling or not, as we have to negotiate gates and odd directions and such.

How long would the work take? When could we expect to be back?

We examined a bridge in China Camp today and studied other projects. Looks like a full day of work.

I would love to help out but I'm working the Indy Car race all weekend.

I'm guessing that we could scoop you up on the other side of the San Rafael Bridge. Easy-peasy.

I live in Mill Valley and would hate to wake up early to get to Berkeley by 8 and then come back over to Petaluma. Is there a time we can meet in Petaluma? Or pick me up in Marin on the way in if the address is a secret (understandable).
