Cinderella Trail Work - Joaquin Miller Park

We're back in Joaquin Miller Park for some dirt fun giving the new reroute on Cinderella Trail some much needed attention. We'll level out the (over sloped) tread and lay back the back slope on some of the tighter areas. Traditional we get the first rains of the year around this time, so hopefully everything will firm up nicely. We'll supply all the toolsMake sure and wear long pants (no shorts), sturdy (closed toe) shoes, and long sleeve shirt.

My apologies I can't make it to this trailwork day, but agree it is badly needed. Thank you to everyone who has worked or will work on these important trails! Also, just curious if anyone has any information about the changes that were made to other parts of Cinderella where the small jumps and kickers were demolished, leaving loose, erosion-prone (not to mention dangerous!) piles of debris. Is there an overall plan for this trail and if so 1) who is the keeper of the plan and 2) who is responsible for executing the plan? Thanks!

Yes, absolutely EBRPD needs to get their act together. I just don't see EBRPD making the leap to a flow trail from where they are now. I see a bike only trail in JMP as an opportunity for a demonstration project that could help push the whole agenda forward (with all agencies) and inspire more advocacy the way it has in Marin. Beside Cinderella is a horrible trail to try to walk up. Why not rebuild it as bike only while at the same time identifying a more suitable hiking trail alternative?

Cinderella has a really steep side slope and is right up against the creek, which makes building in this area very difficult. The flow trail at Tamarancho has completely different terrain and was cut with Jim's Sweco and Kevin's trail building machine. Trying to convert Cinderella would be a whole different ball game. And while I agree that EBRPD is in the dark ages, IMO there is a much better chance of the District building a bike park or flow trail then the City of Oakland. Personally I've always thought the area at the end of Old Tunnel Rd (Quarry Rd) in Sibley would be a great spot. I don't see that the City has the resources or space. All that said, I do know that there is a push within the Friends of Joaquin Miller Park to build a new trail down along Lower Palos Colorados (which is closed to bikes) and would highly recommend that if local riders have ideas for new trails in JMP, that now would be a good time to speak up.

Nice work, team. Richard L. and I took a test ride down Cinderella on Saturday afternoon -- a LOT better!

Cindy is in some serious need of TLC. The re-route should certainly be highest priority, but the top is also in need of some runoff mitigation and the middle where the recent repairs were performed needs some grooming as well. Looking forward to pitching in!
