BTCEB Gala Ride. Our annual "Save Mt Diablo" ride leaving from the HS .

The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay invites you to our monthly Gala Ride. We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month for a casually paced social group ride at one of the many great parks in the area. This is a 'no-drop' group ride (we won't leave you behind or let you get lost).

Rides generally last 2 to 3 hours and are great opportunities to meet other East Bay mountain bikers at your skill level and to discover the best trails without having to do it on your own.

Rides are free and open to the public and led by experienced local mountain bikers familiar with the trails.

Groups for ALL skill levels!

Skill Building Beginner Group (C): The group starts off slow, and then picks up a bit.
Relaxed Intermediate Group (B): We stop to regroup and enjoy the view once in a while.
Fast Paced/Advanced Group (A): You'll get a chance to catch your breath, every now and then.

We start gathering at 9:00am and hit the trails promptly at 9:30am. Join us for refreshments and snacks after the ride.

Please note: As we are currently in the winter riding season, inclement weather can result in the Gala being postponed. As such, BTCEB will confirm via email the status of the ride by 5pm Friday before the Gala.

Is this ride Saturday all flat or hilly? How long is the ride? I may not be able to make it now. I got sideswiped on my way to work this morning and may have to get my car into the shop for repairs and arrange for a rental car for the week at work. Shoot. But if I know how long the ride is for maybe I can do the car thing afterwards. Wondering I guess also if there ate different classes/grades of riders? I don't want to hold anyone up if I can't eke up. Only ride on weekends.

Any technical downhill in the park at all?

    April 10, 2014

I typically wear a FF helmet on any downhill single track as I tend to be a bit clumsy. Curious about the elevation gain and if there is any technical single track, or is it limited to easy fire roads. Don't want to look like a total joke wearing a FF helmet if it's a fairly simple ride. Let me know!!

Kim, Diablo is mostly fire road, very limited on legal single track there. With that being said, Diablo makes you earn all the descents. Climbs on Diablo (depending which trail) can be long and somewhat tiring. I just use my regular mountain bike helmet and leave the full face for places like Northstar or Downieville. I don't know what the elevation gain will be as there are a lot of variations on where we ride. Hope this helps.

Wonderful. Thank you for your prompt reply. I may just give it a try. Should I attend one of the meet up meetings prior? Sorry. I'm a green pea here. Lol

    April 6, 2014

  • Lorrie C.

Well I am interested in giving this a try. Can I just show up on Saturday in Danville? Is there an age limit to this organization?
