BTCEB Gala Ride - Joaquin Miller Park

The Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay invites you to our monthly Gala Ride. We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month for a casually paced social group ride at one of the many great parks in the area. This is a 'no-drop' group ride (we won't leave you behind or let you get lost).

Rides generally last 2 to 3 hours and are great opportunities to meet other East Bay mountain bikers at your skill level and to discover the best trails without having to do it on your own.

Rides are free and open to the public and led by experienced local mountain bikers familiar with the trails.

Groups for ALL skill levels!

Skill Building Beginner Group (C): The group starts off slow, and tapers back from there!
Relaxed Intermediate Group (B): We stop to regroup and enjoy the view once in a while.
Fast Paced/Advanced Group (A): You'll get a chance to catch your breath, every now and then.

We start gathering at 9:00am and hit the trails promptly at 9:30am. Join us for refreshments and snacks after the ride.

Please note:  inclement weather can result in the Gala being postponed. As such, BTCEB will confirm via email the status of the ride by 5pm Friday before the Gala.

I've recently realized JMP is some of the best legal mt bike trails in the Bay Area. Really fun. Hope we do a couple of different loops. It will be crowded with people and doggies (Saturday am) but it will be a nice chance to meet folks and maybe see some new trails, even if you've been there before. Really looking forward to it! I ride there tons-JMP is a great little green gift!

I've never ridden the trails at Joaquin Miller, but I have a cyclo-cross bike. Doable?

    August 8, 2014

    • Erich

Yes, but you might want to avoid Cinderella or Chaparral. Your wrists will thank you (and so will the skin on your forearms and knees).

There people that ride JM on crossbikes. So depending on your skills, sure.

All our Gala rides are 2-2 1/2 hrs, so don't bring your headlamp!

I'll lead a B ride. Start with the little Sequoia Bayview/Castle Park loop (back to start). Down "inner" Big Trees, up "outer" Big Trees, drop Cinderella, up Sunset past the meadow to Harold Ireland and Sunset Loop, continue down onto Palos Colorados to the wooden bride. Back up the hill (PC or Sinawik) through the meadow on Sunset to Sequoia Bayview and back to Horseshoe Picnic area. ~10 miles. (Depending on time and energy some riders can do a Chaparral loop which would be another 3 miles or so.)

Sorry I'm gonna miss this one. I loves me some JMP, but Downieville is calling my name. So I leave you with "A taste of JMP" Enjoy.
